There is no certain age. But you need to make sure you are watching how she is acting, at her age she is at high risk for pyometra, or an infected uterus. If she starts acting ill, get her to a vet right away, pyometra is a life threating illness that usually requires surgery.

It is always extremely concerning when an older female dog stops having heat for a period of time and then starts again. A bitchs heat is different to period in a very important way - humans loose the lining every month, unless a dog has puppies she wont and this builds the lining year after year until you have a very nice environment for bacteria to grow. Pyometra (infection of the uterus) which is sOOO common in older undesexed females anyway, can be immediately life threatening. Open pyometra (ie vaginal discharge) generally does not cause them to be sick straight away. This gives your dog the opportunity to have surgery (required treatment) while it is still well. Antibiotics will help but not cure your dog. While your dog may be just having a normal heat, I recommend you take her to see a vet as soon as possible. It is not normal for an 84 year old woman to have 'a period'. Good luck.

She isn't having her era she's in warmth, a warmth cycle lasts 21 days, 7 days in (bleeding) 7 days on and seven days out. I advise in case you dont' have the funds to seek for an extremely low fee spay and neuter medical institution close to you, to get her spayed will run you roughtly $60-80, contained in the interim do no longer enable out off leash or round any adult males. in case you flow to petsmart you'll hit upon a doggie diaper, it truly is elasticated or velcro pants that make it confusing for the dogs to get off you are able to only use a female pad contained in the interim quite than a diaper. The velcro ones are less complicated to apply.

Get her to the vet right away. There are several things it could be, and they are all serious.
