People are always condemning Christians for doing supposedly "bad" things for the sake of the greater good, like trying to save people's souls at the cost of their lives in the Inquisitions. But isn't that truly the ultimate act of divinity? Doesn't God want us to be willing to get our hands dirty and make a few moral compromises for the sake of our ultimate goal of eradicating sin and attaining paradise?

Consider the fact that the only real way to reconcile the Problem of Evil is by saying that natural evils like tornadoes and earthquakes and cancer are a part of God's plan and will ultimately all be for the best. In other words, suffering is all a part of God's grand design for the universe, and its final outcome, whatever that may be, will be worth all the pain and death.

For that reason, shouldn't we try to emulate God, and thus bring ourselves closer to the divine? If we must make people suffer in this life in order to bring them heavenly joy in the next, surely we should do so.

The ends do not justify the means for GOD.

For with GOD it must justly happen. Everything done in a righteous fashion.

How about if people were doing supposedly "bad" things for the greater good, and saving souls and converting others at the expense of making *you* suffer, and ending *your* life, would the ends justify the means if it were personal to you, instead of "people getting thier hands dirty" on strangers? Or are you looking for an excuse to make "moral comprimises" for what you view as the greater good? If the Christian concept of sin is based on the 10 commandments, then any "moral compromise" made that goes against those 10 laws is a sin, no matter whose name those compromises are made in, and that includes making judgements and actions that are God's to make, not man's.

not sure what Bible you are reading but God never wants us to bring suffering to anyone - if He brings it then ok but we are not to be the cause of suffering - the Inquisition was a terrible time for Christians - did you ever read anything that Jesus said to the effect that killing in His name was ok - NO WAY
as for the ends justifying the means - I think you have it backwards again - we are told to live the righteous life and do things the right way even if it looks backwards to the unbeliever and God will make sure that His will is accomplished

repay evil with good - never evil with evil

OK, here's my answer:
Is there any difference, if you are starving, between eating your own foot and eating your co-worker?
Is there any difference between burning your furniture and burning your neighbor's furniture?
Is it the same thing for me to spank my daughter and take away her bike, and for her to do the same to her sister?
Think about it. If you think of God as "a big guy in the sky", then it makes sense to imagine he has the same moral relationship to us we have to each other. If you have a more philosophical understanding of God, though, you should see that God's relationship to us is quite different from ours to each other.

I'm not a Christian, btw, but this should be obvious to anyone who believes in God.

You are wrong, as you do not know God. You claim to know how he thinks but you are way off the mark and it seems like you are trying to con the readers into thinking what you think.

Would you please stop pretending you are a Christian and just honestly say that you think we are all stupid and that you hate everything we believe in?
