Any ideas?

Three reasons I can think of:

1. A cable is half out, check all connections

2. A microphone is on - double click the speak icon near the clock (bottom right of screen), else go to sounds in Control panel. There you can bring up a list of options which you can alter the volume (includes things like Speaker, Synth, Midi, midcrophone etc) Try swithcing them off and see if any of them help

3. Your speakers are broken. Try using a different set and see if it helps.

You could be getting feedback from the computer - move the speakers away from the computer.
It could be the case that, if the buzz is there on low volume, there is something wrong with the soundcard in the computer but you say your intention is to drown out your neighbour's efforts so it might be your own fault and a court case might be what we hear of next, for nuisance. Be careful.

The fans can cause the buzzing as well, since they create a magnetic field when they spin around so much. Try placing the soundcard in the PC as far away as possible from them, use ferrite to cancel the interference and place the speaker a good distance away from the PC.

in all probability choosing up interference, attempt turning the speaker quantity down and the computing gadget speaker quantity as much as pump greater sign. flow your speaker wires remote from potential lines, examine if something new like a hair dryer or vacuum purifier is getting used, they seem to make a large form of interference whilst working.

You are correct checking the electrical field in the room first. have you tried moving them further away from your PC.!
The only other reason as to why they are buzzing is a loose earth! you need to check all your connections for good grounding/earthing. or even if your running wireless you may need to move the router. good luck.

Maybe its too loud or the bass boost is on? Or maybe you should get some new ones if they're old?
