Do not get Vista yet. It is still in Beta form and has many bugs that have to be fixed.
Plus I don't think your system is big enough to run it. Go to the store and read the requirements or look it up on-line.

Can't help specifically as my employer hasn't even considered rolling out MS Vista in the next year or so (likely longer). What I would suggest is looking on the Microsoft site to see if video shared memory configurations are supported. I am guessing that you could run MS Vista but you would need to ensure the Aero desktop was disabled (essentially you'll lose the "WOW" factor that MS has been advertising but in my opinion, MS is forcing everyone to upgrade from perfectly reasonable hardware to something high end for the sake of lining their pockets). If shared video isn't supported, consider buying a graphics card (AGP or PCI...not sure which your system has) to use instead of the integrated video capabilities of your motherboard.

As for the memory issues mentioned by the other responders, yes, MS Vista is memory intensive, but not quite as bad as they indicate. Now I'm only going off reviews and feedback I've seen from other forums but MS Vista memory management changed compared to 2000/XP. The system will use all the available memory when the system is idle and provisions it out to applications as needed. I did read a performance review that said that 2 GB was the "sweet spot" for MS Vista but that 512 MB can be used, you'll just need to run in more of an "XP" like environment.

HI

According to microsoft you need atleast 512mb to run VISTA and if you're familiar with their minimum specifications from microsoft for other operating systems like XP/2000 they always needed double space, ram and processing unit than they specify, so you can still try to run VISTA on your PC but you'll feel like working on a P3 machine, moreover it is a completely new operating system and still full of bugs, so it's better to wait until first service pack comes out and other thing is to enjoy the 3D graphics of vista, you need directx 10 compliant graphics cards which are very expensive at the moment, so better to think about it again and wait until it becomes reasonable.

If you want your computer have good performance with vista, you need AT LEAST 1GB memory. FYI, after cold boot, and no other 3rd party program or applications running, Vista will eat the memory up to 550MB.

I not recommend to use vista yet. If you really want it, just wait until service pack released. It still has a lot of bugs. And I am very sure that Vista will spying your computer too.

And about video cards. Minimum requirement for Vista without its new GUI (just like classic style), Vista need at least 64MB Video memory.

Vista may run but your computer, and that too with internet, will run horribly slow. I wouldn't recommend Vista on machines with anything less than 760 MB RAM. Moreover, I would also wait until the Vista bugs are sorted out in the 1st Service Pack.

You can go to the Windows Vista website to see exactly what you need! It's a test you run...it goes through everything. Even your own computers pro's and con's.

Just download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor!!!!

Vista barely runs on 1gig. Your machine doesn't stand a chance of running it.

yep, but very slow. Try to get 1GB of RAM and 128MB of shared video ram. You MUST have shared video memory or the comp wont boot.
