You can't be buried just anywhere - it could cause all sorts of health and legal implications if you were buried in the garden, or a field and ownership changed. With no formally registered records the police would be investigating murder!

There are (in the UK anyway) non-religious graveyards, special woodland etc... Humanists (a form of atheist) have celebrants to be officials at a burial and can help with sites and ceremonies. www.humanism.org. They've got a book and you can also contact them. I've never been to a humanist burial but their weddings are nice.

Also consider the environmental implications of your burial. Burning is bad for the atmosphere. Burial in a hardwood coffin is bad too. People can be buried in shrouds or can have recycled cardboard or papier mache coffins. You can even decorate it yourself if you don't find it weird. I think in some countries, like France, because they use preservatives on the bodies (because of open coffins) the body must be in a wooden coffin to prevent pollution, the latter informaiton is word of mouth though.

You could be buried anywhere that did not break law...

but...

i think it would be better to be cremated and then you could be scattered in a place you loved the most.

In terms of the funeral...
cremation halls and garden of remembrance are the usual places - but your family could always rent a hall and do it their own way!!

I attended a humanist funeral at the local crematorium, I believe the ashes were put in the Garden of Rembrance.

On the day you die, would you like your acquaintances to just take your body to the local rubbish tip and just dump it there?
Certainly no religion involved. They would be complying with local government laws in respect to disposing of flesh that had commenced rotting.
I DO NOT THINK SO.
even Jesus said that the day of our dying is more important than the day of our birth. Because by then you would have had a lifetime of achievements, gaining friends [ and maybe enemies] and maybe producing a family. Where does the feeling of love we have for our family come from?
7 Beloved ones, let us continue loving one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born from God and gains the knowledge of God.

It will take place on a place where you will no longer know because a dead person has cease to exist. You will not even know how you will be buried by your friends and relatives. When you will die, leave it to your friends and relatives who take care of your burial, if you ever be buried or burned to ashes. You know if you will be burn to ashes, the virus in your body will no longer live to be passed to other persons.
