Hi Ward

How did you read my mind from so far away?
The Call Centres and others who use this technology are oblivious to the needs of the caller. They are only interested in whatever business they can get from us or are delaying answering a complaint from us.
There are some, however, who use another system that says:
"I'm sorry to keep you waiting ..... you are 5th in the queue"
Now, that's more like it and if the queue is too long, you hang up.

As some of the numbers are Premium Rate or National Rate, this could make a difference eh?

The call probably is not as important as it sounds on the 'other' side, but moving up the queue is important, whether in line by foot or by car...and it gives the one behind the security that his turn is coming!

Yours is not to reason why - yours is to sit there and scream why oh why' - because that is how the queueing system on the phone gets me - I have been holding on for 45minutes at one time - crazy but I needed to close a contract with my broadband (so important_

The garbage collection company's automated system called the other night, referring me to a number to call.

So, I cal lthe 800 number and get the whole "your call is important..." for 10 minutes. Then, the automated attendant says, I'm sorry, no one is available to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone."

So I did, and no one returned my call. Now, my garbage is not going to get picked up. I mean, I know I should have paid the bill on time, but how frustrating!

As about as important as picking a flea off a dog's backside. Just one more nuisance out of the way for them.

Yes it is, but slowly enough so that you get bombarded with marketing drivel by the phone queue robot.

If my call was important, I would be speaking with a human right now.
