Panj in Punjabi language means "5" and aab means water, here it means river.
So the province of Punjab means, 5 waters or 5 rivers.
This province is the land of 5 rivers, the most agricultural land in India/Pakistan.
Punjabi means the language of the land of 5 rivers.
The names of those 5 rivers are
Biyas, Sutlaj, Ravi, Jehlum and Sindh(Indus).
All these 5 rivers join together at a place in Pakistani part of Punjab, called, Trimu and it becomes the great river of Indus. Indus river in local language is called, Sindh, it becomes to be called its land, another province now in Pakistan, Sindh Province.
Punjabi is among the oldest language in the world, as 7,000 year back Indus Vally civilisation people used to speak this language.

Punjabi (also Panjabi; ਪੰà¨à¨¾à¨¬à© in GurmukhÄ«, Ù¾ÙØ¬Ø§Ø¨Û in ShÄhmukhÄ«, PañjÄbÄ« in transliteration) is the language of the Punjabi people and the Punjab regions of India and Pakistan.
It is an Indo-European language within the Indic branch of the Indo-Iranian subfamily. Unusually for an Indo-European language, Punjabi is tonal; the tones arose as a reinterpretation of different consonant series in terms of pitch. In terms of morphological complexity, it is an agglutinative language[1] (also very unusual for an Indo-European language, most of which are inflecting) and words are usually ordered 'Subject Object Verb'.
The Punjabi people suffered a split between India and Pakistan during the Partition of 1947. Punjabi is also one of the several languages spoken in the Indian subcontinent.
