Make it straight but leave it brown and add some chestnut, honey, or amber highlights. If you dye it black and you have pale skin, you will look goth, unless that is the look you are going for. I thing it will look pretty if you add highlights!

If you are pale and dye your hair black you may end up a bit ill looking all the time. Its also rather Gothy. Why not have nice warm toned highlights instead.
If you look around you nowadays you tend to see that a majority of women have staight or straightened hair...why not keep your curls and be unusual. (having very curly hair myself I have noticed this)

Sounds alright, but remember, it is a big change and will take some time to get used to, so don't do it right before a big event. But, if it is what you want, go for it. It's just hair, and worse comes to worst, you can go for the Britney Spears look, if it doesn't work out.

keep it curly or straighten it but when highlighting it go honey suckle or a burgundy looks nice or even a few different highlights look good together .

Where exactly is this hair growing from as you state that it's "up to my shoulders".
I think I would take a razor to it and concentrate on your head-hair!!

My advice is to keep your original colour ~ just keep it washed to generate a healthy hair shine...
