Salt has always been used as a preservative. Also beware of anything else that starts with "sodium". It is the sodium in our foods that we have to worry about and not the chloride.

Salt in our food is an acquired taste just like anything else.

Most foods that are "packaged" either canned or frozen have some salt in them as a preservative. Your best bet is to ALWAYS use fresh fruit or vegetables, but frozen is often considered the next best.
