So, it's OK for people to break the law whenever a bright yellow camera isn't visible?
I've got a much better idea. Just obey the law at all times. That way there is no chance of a speed camera, whether yellow or otherwise, catching you.

Cameras installed at accident black spots by local Safety Camera partnerships had to be painted yellow and plainly visible. The M25 cameras were installed before that legislation was introduced.

Also, they are there for a different purpose - they are not to enforce limits because there is a risk of accident at a particular place, but to enforce the temporary, variable limits imposed to control the flow of traffic to ease congestion during busy periods.

Speed cameras are supposed to be yellow. the ones on motorways are there to enforce temporary speed restrictions. for when they modify the speed limit on the gantrys, when there's roadworks or congestion or they feel like it.

I'm not sure about the technicality of it if you get a ticket as there are normally speed camera signs on the gantrys with cameras. and due to their locations behind the signs painting them yellow would make little difference to their visibility.

Also remember they have the two camera system now (i think called specs) on many motorways in certain stages, which measures your speed between two points. these are harder to spot and definetly not painted yellow !
