Love this question. What will make my day special? My fiance. As someone who is currently planning a wedding, I've come to realize that the vows I am about to take are all that matters. My fiance and I came to the agreement that we both wanted a small wedding. Then about 2 months ago, we decided that the only people we want there is us. We are having a destination wedding in the poconos mountains which is also where we will be honeymooning. After we return, then we're having our reception so that our families and friends can celebrate with us. It's actually going to cost us alot more to get married and everything there but I think the memories and such that our wedding will leave us with is what will make it special. Plus it will be just the two of us and that makes it even more sacred and intimate.

I want to get married at my BF's father's summer house on a lake. They have a small island about 20 feet from there beach that they have turned into a garden. I want to be on the island at sunset while everyone watches from the beach or on boats surrounding. The colors would be red, black and white with white and red roses every where. I want my twin cousins to be the ring bearers, and his cousins to be the two flower girls. Then for the reception I want it to be very laid back with buffet dinner. I would have a DJ for the first few hours then have my BF's band and other local bands play the rest of the time. Have an open invite for the party so anyone that knows us can come. The cake will be made by one of my cousins who has a degree as a pastry chef and concentrated on wedding cakes. The only thing I need to make the day special is the man I love beside me and our family's there to support us.

In a garden on a warm sunny day, with my LOVE and just a few friends and family there (no more than 30 people). The cake will be a 3 layer cake made from 3 small round cakes placed like a 3 leaf clover with a larger round on top of that and then another small round. The cake would have white frosting with peach color flowers along the edges and with the top being of peach roses in a small vase with some baby's breath and maybe some purple violets.
My dress would be a tea length and off white and my maid of honor would have a peach one.
The reception would be a buffet in the same garden.

My boyfriend and I just talked about this for the first time last week. He hasn't asked yet, but he brought up the conversation SO, I think he's planning my proposal.
We are either going on a road trip to Colorado or New Mexico to get married on a mountain side at sunset. Or a beach at sunset. We are taking only our parents, siblings and my son. My dad is a minister so he will perform the ceremony. My brother can video tape it and his sister can take pictures. It will be intimate and mean more to us. I'll still have a wedding dress, but it will be really casual. Nothing formal at all. When we come back to town (Texas) we will have a big party with about 50 of our closest friends and have the cake and music and food & dancing there.
We just want to spend time with our immediate family. That's what will make it special to us. Since we won't have the regular ceremony with bridesmaids and grooms men we are going to have them shirts made to wear to our reception. It will be lots of fun...

The people: well it has to be my b/f of course!!! My close family and friends, in total around 20 guests.
The place: registry office followed by a party at my sister in laws house and garden.
The cake: a stack of profiteroles
What will make my day special: hmmm...well if my b/f turns up!! JOKE! He is cooking our wedding meal. I've also got a beautiful dress which my mum's friend is making for me, it's a stunning petrol/peacock blue colour. I'm wearing cream and blue feathers in my hair.

Personally, I would love to either
A) Just go away, the two of us, to and island and get married on the beach, all alone, surrounded by a beautiful landscape, flowing dress, semi-casual hair, etc.
B) A TINY wedding with only immediate family.
Mostly, I'd like A. I'd rather spend less time organizing a day and more time enjoying the moment. That's just me :)

The person you are marrying is so much more important than all of these material things. Sure it's nice to have a big wedding but it costs a packet and there's always members of the family that don't get along...I'll be running away to the caribbean with my man and just having a huge party when we get back!

What made my day special was that I was marrying the man I love, surrounded by people who love us and want to celebrate our marriage. Everything else is just fluff.
Please remember to not expect "perfection" on your wedding day. Things WILL go wrong, no matter how hard you plan. Just keep in mind that (1) no one will notice that things aren't going according to your "perfect" plan but you and (2) they aren't what really matter anyway.

Cakes, people and places aren't what make that day so special...it's the person standing next to us that we're getting ready to exchange vows with. If that isn't the reason the day is special then one needs to re-evaluate the reason for getting married.
