There's a crew of guys building a deck, painting the house, laying shingle, etc. Should I provide some cold drinks? I know it's not summer yet and they aren't nearly working up the sweat that I did when I was working with a moving company in the flame of summer, but most of those people offered us drinks and we expected it. Should I do this. Or if not, is there anything I should offer them as they work?

I think it is common curtesy that you do, even if it is not Summer there yet, working will get them hot and they always like cold drinks now and then.

Setting cold water of ice tea out where they could serve themselves is a kindness .....
But they do that work everyday......
They bring what they need to get through the work day
just as most working people do. The exception is hot
weather where providing continous cold water is really
necessary for all of us.
Be polite but don't make it a social function
(food or snacks is overdoing it)

We have always offered anyone working on our house or doing labor for us a beverage or bottled water. It really is a nice gesture and it shows that you are thoughtful. Plus, your workers might do a better job for you if they know their employer is a kind person.

I always offer drinks to anyone who is doing work in my home...generally offer a biscuit as well...it's up to them whether they accept or not. To me, it's only manners to do so, especially if I am making a drink for myself.

It would not hurt to offer them 'bottled' water. This is easy to hand out, has a lid, and they can put it in their work belt and keep it handy for them to drink from....but, I would venture to guess, that this is not necessary, only a very nice gesture.

yes you should offer drinks but not with alcohol or you'll never get the job finished. Water, ice tea and soft drinks are fine.

i know most contractors bring their own food and drink, but offering a cold drink or a cup of tea is a nice way to say thanks, i think your working well, and it gives them permission to take a short break!

well they usually bring their own. my mother in law had some guys working on her roof last summer and she gave them some cookies . they seemed to be thankful for them. I guess its up to you. you dont have to but its a nice gesture at the same time.
