I have always wondered if I was and before my aunt pasted away she mentioned that I was adopted. I have found noting to substatiate it in our family records but am still wondering if I was. I know I could go through a PI but that takes alot of money. Anyone know of any websites or agencies that may be able to help?

Despite some of the responses on the list, your birth certificate is not a good indicator of adoption. When our son's adoption was finalized, we received a birth certificate from the state that listed us as the parents. There is nothing reflecting "adoption" anywhere.

You may want to check local newspapers around the time you were born to see if there is "birth notice" or check with the hospital you were born in to see if they can offer any assistance.

Good luck!

I think the simplest and less expensive way is if you could obtain a copy of your birth certificate, that should have your mother's maiden name on it, and can't be legally altered even if you were adopted.
Websites are good, but with PI's you also need to provide them with something so they can use in their search, otherwise you could end up wasting a lot of money on nothing.

Try checking the Births, Deaths and marriages offices in your country and talking with other members of your family, see if they can tell you anything that you aunt will not tell you outright.

I would ask other family members or friends that your mother had if they remember seeing your mother pregnant with you or not?? I assume your parents are deceased by now or you could ask them?

Request newborn records at the hospital where you *think* you could have been born. These are usually free. I did this for myself and for my deceased sister. You'll have to provide information like your date of birth and your mother's name. If you get anything then you know you were hers. Even if you find out that you were adopted. You still were hers!

The Registrar of Deeds in the place you were born should be able to tell you if the birth certificate has been amended to a new name or parents names as it would when an adoption occured.

this is not public information. but it can be found at the location you were born. the hospital should have that information, if the adoption took place at birth. Can you ask the parents who raised you if you were adopted. are they still alive? Ask as many family members as you can. you need to know who your parents are for medical purposes. this information is usually available to you for that reason. you may not be able to contact your parents, but you should be able to know who they are.

Should say right on your birth certificate. You may request a copy from your state, for a fair fee.

I hired an Investigator before and it only cost $300.

Check with the beauro of vital statistics for your state and see if they can help you.
