It is a man thing. When I watch TV at night the wife always gives me the remote. And there are times that she'll even tell me as she hands it to me, Here this way you can surf the channels.

I never get to see a whole movie, and even if I thought I had seen a whole movie it's probably been the start of one, the middle of another and the end of a different one.
And to cap it all, he'll often fall asleep with the remote in his possession and when I take the remote to change channel, he says "Oy, I was watching that!".

In my house, we share the remote pretty much 50/50. When he has it, it drives me crazy. When I have it, I do the same thing and drive him crazy! I just think it's annoying whenever you don't have the control because inevitably they pick a show that you would never want to watch while they pass up tons of shows that look interesting to you. But, of course, you do the same thing when you hold the remote. You just don't notice it.

Its a way on making sure our tea is cooked on time, If we didn't have the remote the women would be too busy watching Coronations Street to cook us anything.

My husband does the same thing. He says it's because he doesn't care what is on TV, he only cares about what ELSE is on TV.

It's our only refuge of control. If you take away the remote we are left with nothing.
