Having not done a great deal of travelling before I could really use any advice on things like Visa Applications, innoculations, what I will need, any good books on planning trips, places I really should go to and any other tips on what I should take with me and how I should carry it around with me. I'll be gone for about a year. Thanks!

Yet another backpacker!

I've been to Bintan and it's really boring, so it's not really recommended. I hear Bali's a better alternative, though!

Hong Kong is a great place for shopping- however I ended up spending SGD 500 on things I didn't really need. So I'll be tight on my wallet if I were you! haha..

The place in Malaysia called Colmar Tropicale is a fascinating french-inspired place but 3D2N is more than enough. I stayed for 4 days and things kinda became boring after awhile.

I'd strongly advise you not to comment or make fun of anything that isn't familiar to you- some strange objects have voodoo or black magic powers, especially when you travel to countries with a different culture from yours.

Also, be patient when the food that you ordered is delayed. Be nice to the waiter or he may just spit into your meal, especially if you're a foreigner. *shrugs* :)

have fun!
