The substance is soft, off-white, located near and under my gumline and occurs only on a few teeth. When using a gum stimulator, a device with a pointed tip, I can go close to the gumline or under the gumline and scrape this stuff off.

I've tried finding answers online. Is this bad or good to scrape off? I also have receding gums. Is this material connective tissue or connective fibers left over as the gums start to recede? Does scraping this off prevent gums from reattaching to the teeth?

Or is this material plaque-like substance that is necessary to remove before it forms into other harmful substances, e.g. plaque?

there is an danger that isn't a gum abscess it is an abscess on the inspiration of a close-by the tooth. If its a genuine gum abscess then you've got meals lodged between gum and the tooth that could could be bumped off. it is needed ( extra so whilst pregnant) to get this dealt with. The an infection can effect the well-being of your newborn. you're able to get an extraction of the the tooth lined under medical coverage. in many aspects there are loose or low priced dental clinics you could pass to to boot. I choose you success and those do no longer sparkling up on their very own. The discomfort could pass away if the abscess is able to empty however the an infection and well-being danger continues to be there.

the white stuff is bacteria and scraping it won't make your gums grow back; if you already have receding gums there is a high possibility you already have gum disease. back to the white stuff, it is this stuff that if you don't remove by brushing and flossing that it piles up and and becomes plaque. You should probably see a dentist about the receding gumlines. Good Luck!

That is exactally what it is...bacteria. That is the material that left will turn into plaque and will cause inflames gums. Yes you need to remove this, brushing well and flossing should do the trick. The stimulator is used to rub and stimulate the gums to get them healthy and less spongy.

YOU GOT IT! soft pre-plaque, would be my guess. Scraping it off, probably will not help the gum problem, however. If it doest bleed when you are scraping, I doubt you have anything to worry about.

JIMMY,
THIS MATERIAL IS SOFT DENTAL PLAQUE. BEFORE THIS MATERIAL BECOMES HARD AND TURNS INTO CALCULUS (aka, tartar) IT MUST BE REMOVED.
USING ANY TOOTH BRUSH EXCEPT A SOFT-BRISTLE ONE IS BAD AND CAN CAUSE GUM RECESSION.
THE TRULY SAFE WAY TO REMOVE THIS PLAQUE SAFELY USE A WATERPIK IRRIGATOR. THIS PULSARING STREAM EASILY REMOVES SOFT PLAQUE THAT YOUR TOOTHBRUSH MISSES.

Bacteria and leftover food particles. Receeding gums are a sign of severe gum disease and you shouldn't ignore it.
