GM killed it and todaay announced they will have an electric car by 2010 but also stated a 10% chance it won't work and will only go 40 miles. It's a dirty joke on the public. OIl and money controls us. They don't care if it makes the middle east rich and pollutes our air. It's all about money. I wouldn't buy a GM car or any of their products. The whole deal STINKS! What say you?

Don't wait for GM. And don't listen to the people who are trying to tell you there's been no progress in battery research in 30 years. Take a look at this vehicle, which is being manufactured right now:

The Phoenix electric pickup truck - using new, advanced Altairnano batteries (based on research from MIT) - can:

-Travel up to 250 miles per charge
-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.
-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.
-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)

Yes, it is all about money. If a product is not financially viable no company in the world is going to build it. To do otherwise is a good way to go out of business. That wouldn't serve anybody, the owners, the government or the employees, now would it?

Electric cars, as they stand today, are not viable primarily because of the batteries. The batteries are not economical and are huge polluters. We are going to start seeing fallout from that issue in a few years. If and until the batteries can be made economical and the many environmental issues can be resolved, electric cars are doomed to fail. Its as simple as that.

In my opinion, fuel cells and hydrogen combustion are the most likely candidates for long term effectiveness with low to no pollution. Many research organizations are researching those methods and we are going to start seeing more about them soon.

i'd say you're definately misinformed. GM "killed" the electric car because they couldn't sell any of them. So in a way, the general public "killed" the electric car. A corporation can only do what's profitable. They can't just make a car and have it not sell just for the sake of being good to the world.

Dick Cheney and Halliburton working on Bushes orders killed the electric car so we would be diverted while they fought that illegal war and let the illegals into this country. You killed it by not buying it. Electric cars have been around for over 90 years. Nobody wants them!

Battery technology has never been good enough. Not enough energy per unit volume compared to gasoline, diesel, propane, natural gas, hydrogen etc.
