It struck me while flicking through one of those celeb mags that there were pages of articles about how such and such celebrity is underweight etc, and very unhealthy, but very little about how overweight celebrities are also unhealthy. I wondered why this was? Is it fair to talk about banning so called size 0 models but not plus size 22 ones?

I disagree with both by the way, a healthy balance is the answer. I was just curious as to why you thought this was?

I don't think people can win either way really....first the media is cruel to people that are overweight causing a lot of celebs to over-diet [plus of course non celebs]....then when they're too thin they're cruel to them as well.
A balance is what we need really to be totally healthy....I don't think it's right to ridicule anyone whether they're overweight, underweight or whatever.....it's not very encouraging to be downright nasty like that........yet on the other hand it's skinny models that are shoved down our throats putting females under a lot of pressure to adhere to the "latest look"
God knows when it'll all stop. It's getting totally out of hand now......

first there are much greater risks attached to being under weight than over weight. Somebody can be 20 kilos overweight and still moderately healthy and live a long and active life. 20 kilos underweight is imminetly life threatening and much more dangerous.
Also being over weight carries it's own stigma. Overweight people are ridiculed and often it's assumed that they are lazy and dirty. They are more likely to be stared at in the street and not in a way that suggests admiration.
Banning any particular size of model seems silly to me. I doubt it will resolve any of the problems it's supposed to. People have a right to live their lives in whatever way they choose. Whilst help guidance and support should be available for anybody who is putting there life at risk for any reason, society can't prevent it. It's an individuals right to do that.

Fat people are barely seen in magazines, and they have been continuously ridiculed and ignored by the society so it's boring to criticize the few fat celebrities. Those underweight celebrities however, had weight issues that's why they dropped enormous lbs and they're not providing a good example to the young population that looks up to them for character and style.

Seriously. Have you ever seen an obese celebrity in one of those mags? Size 0 is the hype du jour, of course the media is going to run with it. Problem is, they could get sued if they did what they really want to do, which is promote an unhealthy (and yet ever so glamorous) lifestyle.

Currently we're in a pendulum swing where people are more aware of anorexia and how important it is not to allow it to grow, hence people are reactionarily criticising skinny models. Fat people are being seen as sufferers and subject to intense mental trauma, and hence being treated with care and sympathy. Of course, the reverse is true for both. Not all fat people are fat because they can't help it.

Those magazines are NOT realistic. OVERWEIGHT people get ridiculed more than THIN people do in real life. Your pointing out this about these magazines demonstrates how ridiculous they are. Don't buy them. They are only in it for the money and don't care about accurate information or about who they hurt.
They are also getting sued for being mean to overweight people, so now they are trashing underweight people, just to make a buck/pound.
Glad you pointed this out.

is there such issue as a length 22 variety? maximum plus length fashions are a 14-16 yet are not used in massive mainstream classified ads etc because they are geared in route of an particularly professional market. those who're skinny get more suitable media insurance or maybe as they reduce weight, they get more suitable! contained in the repute global, the in reality way is down even as it includes weight. fat human beings are not of any activity to the media it truly is why fattie boost-booms are in no way seen as a lot as skinny minnies.

Because we tend to feel sorry for over weight people. Thin people on the other hand usually represent what most want to look like but can't (or won't) so when one of them is a bit too skinny we enjoy getting on their as#.

Because those magazines are FULL of size 00 and 0 and 2's.
And there are like, *snort* two fat women.
There are no fat people to mock in those magazines, because they do not get three page spreads over 'REHAB LEGGING SCARE' or some **** like that.
No, We MOCK the vanity of rich women who starve themselves so they get spine definition at their photo ops, and we IGNORE the women who choose not to pursue that ridiculous ideal.
