I want to fully accept Christ, but every time I try, I feel like something is off. Am I too smart? Too stupid? Too weird or different? It's really hard sometimes.

You are certainly not alone. I think with any religion it can be difficult. Too often people are given these "guidelines" that they are made to think they have to follow. While some of those guidelines are common sense, others can actually push people away.

As a Christian, I'm not innocent of those "other" guidelines and I personally believe that when I realize my faults and pray for forgiveness, my Lord does exactly that... forgives me. It's a daily struggle for anyone involved. The key is to always remember you are not perfect and Jesus knows you are human and you will make mistakes and you will sin... the end result is up to you. Do you just let it go or do you pray and ask for His forgiveness and guidance?

Try going to a local community church as I have personally found this to be a wonderful starting point. The only way to learn to live through God is to jump in and give it your all. Most churches offer Bible studies and a lot even break them down into age groups. Find one that suits your age and become involved. You'll easily be able to find a solid Christian who will be more than happy to help you along the way. It can be intimidating, but know that in the end, it's between you and the Lord and no one else!

God bless you and I wish you the very, VERY best!

I know exactly what you mean. It seems to come easy for most Christians (although, this isn't something a Christian would advertise, probably), but I always have questions and hang-ups. Mostly it's when we're in church and I observe all the goofy stuff as through an outsider's eyes. I sit there and think, "This is crazy! Eating bread and drinking grape juice, and calling them the body and blood of Christ!?" Some of it just seems strange....

All I can tell you in terms of advice is to read your Bible (get a good study Bible) and pray. When I keep up with those two things, I feel closer to God. When it's been a while since I've picked up my Bible, I start doubting. Also, find this book: Living a Cross-Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney. It will perhaps make things clearer for you, and it's a good read.

Remember, God is big enough that He doesn't mind if you are asking questions.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I remember feeling that way until I discovered that being a Christian is not about trying your head off until you're perfect. It's about simply accepting what Christ has already fully done for you. That gave me peace beyond all understanding. St Augustine said that all we need to do is holding out an empty hand. We have nothing else to offer God.

Have you read Romans 7 and 8? Paul had the same struggle...

Maybe God doesnt want you to be christian, and youre not seeing the signs, <<<<< Is an Ex christian

this is how i became an ex christian, I was going to church for many years, yet something didnt feel right, i met my relatives in Odessa for the first and last time. Both were christians that couldnt get along because they believed there was a true sect (even non denomination is a denomination) and neither wanted to see the fact that either was christian. But, since then, ive had more experiences and researched christianity's history. In the final step I asked Jesus into my heart for the second time, this time, not only did it not work, it backfired, and i was more miserable than i was before. I finally went to God itself, and God told me that christianity wasnt my path, that Taoism is where i should be. Thus, realizing my error, I deconverted, and have never looked back. I feel much better, but now i dont feel comfortable where i live, but that will change soon.

Trust your heart, and not the bleating of sheep.

Religion is not something to struggle with. It should give you peace and tranquility. Perhaps you should try another religion. You don't have to go through this "ritual" of accepting christ in your life business. Christ will do nothing for you. He cannot answer your prayer. He cannot protect you from evil. You are not weird, stupid or strange at all. I was little convinced to "accept" Christ in my life. For what., when I have God? You'll only fool yourself if you go through with it. Nobody else will care, not even Christ because he did not say to anyone during his lifetime nor afterward to " accept" him into your life. This is all bogus. Christ said to do good unto others. That's all. Christ came to show us the miracles God can perform through Christ's birth and death. God didn't send Christ to give us a guilt trip about not accepting him. What kind of annoying practice is that? What kind of religion is that? And one last thing. Christ said: "Do not follow the ways of men."

Many people feel this way. Most people don't like to talk about their doubts, etc as they feel it's weakness. But I believe that it's usually the devil who plants these seeds of doubt. Keep praying and remember that everyday there is a battle for our souls.

Well since there's about a gazillion types of christianity what's the problem? Do you have to fall to the floor and speak in "tongues"? Dance with rattlesnakes like those wackos in West Virgina? I don't think any one religion has all the answers and I look at it as such.

Everyone struggles. Go to your priest. If you are not active in a church become active. It will make a difference. Go to an orthodox church. Orthodox was the first church created by the apostles. They could help you.

Why do you want to be a Christian in the first place? Haven't you learnt more about other religions? Everybody has the right to choose and so do you. Ask yourself this question and decide carefully. There's so much more to learn from others too and you might eventually discover the truth along the way...
