It was the church that all others have sprung from. I know that it has had it's chaotic times, but still...it was the Original.

I'm not Catholic. Just considering becoming Catholic. Trying to decide.

I don't think Jesus would be very happy with all the arguments between his believers.
Read The Bible, a good Study Bible, front to back and allow The Holy Spirit to guide you and feel good about whatever church you decide to attend.

No history lesson here....
No left or right direction stressed here....
I only offer you a direct path to The Lord...

Thru Faith .

Your premise is wrong. Catholocism was not the first church, it did not start until Constantine in the 300's. The first church was Jesus' church which He said "I will build MY church" (not the Catholic church) and it started at Pentacost (a Jewish feast) after Jesus ascended to Heaven. The other churches did not spring up from Catholocism, but existed just as they do today along side of Catholocism. The difference then was that if you declared your self to be a non Catholic in those days the Catholic church condemed you as a ``heritic and burned you at the stake. 100 of thousands of "heritics" were killed and so the true church remained underground while Catholics claimed to be the only (Universal) church. No one who wanted to live dared to defy them until Martin Luther and the reformers came along in the 1500`s. Read some good history books, not those rewritten by the Catholic church before you decided if you really want to be Catholic or not.

No, just because Catholicism was the first Christian religion does not mean it is the most accurate. It is the most accurate because it has been guided and kept from error by the Holy Spirit from the very beginning.

Keep going to the RCIA classes and ask LOTS of questions on anything you do not understand or are uncomfortable with. If God is calling you to become a member of the Catholic Church, heed His call.

Ask me any questions you have.

Absolutely correct . Only the Orthodox can truthfully share in that historical claim with us because until 1054 we were all united but Orthodoxy never faced anything like the Protestant movement. There are both Catholic and Orthodox congregations that were established in person by Apostles. It is also true that not all churches calling themselves Christian have come from us. Some are break aways from other protestants. Also sometimes random people pick up the Bible and claim they have suddenly discovered a new message and start new churches from scratch. I know that Jesus walked the Earth about 2000 years ago. I know that the Apostles continued to spread His teachings after the Ascension (with Peter in charge). I do not find it logical that God hid His teachings inside the Bible so that new churches could magically reveal them to us in the 14th, 15th, 19th, 21st centuries or whatever later era.

Yes it was the first & original........What did Martin Luther, the Protestant Reformer, state about the Bible? In his "Commentary On St. John," he stated the following: "We are compelled to concede to the Papists that they have the Word of God, that we have received It from them, and that without them we should have no knowledge of It at all." Regardless of what non-Catholic Christians may think or say, according to secular, objective historians, the Catholic Church alone preserved Sacred Scripture throughout the persecution of the Roman Empire and during the Dark Ages. All non-Catholic Christian denominations owe the existence of the Bible to the Catholic Church alone. Why did God choose the Catholic Church to preserve Scripture if It is not His Church?

Yes, you just have to be a little logical, study Christian history (as is) and lo behold! you are enlightened. The Roman Catholic church was founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ in the year 33. Its first Pope was St.Peter and his present day successor is Pope Benedict XVI. So Catholics are the original Christians.

Martin Luther ex-monk of the Catholic Church founded the Lutheran religion, in the year 1517. The first protest and the first of thousands of man-made churches that do not acknowledge the Pope as Vicar of Christ. All of them claim to be Christian and claim to be superior to the Roman Catholic church. All of them differ in their beliefs.

Whereas the Roman Catholic church has stayed the same and not wavered in its beliefs since the time of Christ on earth. It has stayed on the Rock of Peter and will stay firm and unchanging till the end of time.
The Roman Catholic church hopes and prays that these wandering people will come back home to Rome 'the only ark of salvation'.

It is certainly through the Catholic Church that Our Lord has guided men to keep the deposit entrusted to the Apostles throughout the centuries. It is only the Catholic Church that has not changed and it is only She that has existed since the time of Christ.
The Church has certainly always been aware that she has been given by Christ the entire deposit of revelation to guard until the last day and thus asserts the infallibility of her Supreme Pastor, appointed by Christ to be His Vicar on earth, and also that salvation can be found only within her maternal bosom.

Let us know when you make your decision. Thanks.

Myles325 You refer to your Bible for proof about everything but not everything is mentioned in the Bible. The Catholic church existed before the Bible came into existence. It is the Catholic monks who brought the Bible into existence by their painstaking work. Without the Catholic church you wouldnt have the Bible. So it is not the 'Bible alone' for Catholics but our 2000 year old tradition too. Thanks

No, actually Catholics were not the first Church, the Jews were, but this is not what would make them accurate, I was born into the Catholic Church but have found it to be very inaccurate according to the Bible they do not teach Bible truth and therefore are not approved by God just like any other Church that does this sort of thing because God expects his Church not only to teach Bible truth But to follow it,(John4:24).

when Jesus Christ was on earth he established the church on the foundation of prophets and apostles, Him being the chief cornerstone. CAtholic church was organized in 300AUD. Why is it called Catholic? Why not the church of Jesus Christ, whose name it should bear? What happened between the ascension of the Savior and death of His apostles and the 300AD? If it is the original church, it should start from the time of Christ establishing His church and should continue with 12 apostles and a prophet. IF you look at the history of Catholic church, the deeper you dig, the more you'll understand that there was a great apostasy after Jesus Christ and CAtholic is not :His only true living church. I don't mean to demean your belief. that's the fact and the history anyway. Find more about what you are giong to commit yourself to. Why would you pray to Mary, the mother of Christ? she was just a person. the questions will come up as you read the Bible and compare the teaching with the rituals and ceremonies of the catholic church. ANyway, the church of Christ has been restored through a true prophet Joseph Smith in 1830 and there are 12 apostles and a living prophet today.

I was Methodist and now I'm Catholic. The answer is yes, it does make sense. Many Bible Christians will give you verses from the Bible, taken out of context, to prove that Catholics are wrong. But the Catholic Church has successfully shown, for over 2000 years that everything she does is biblically sound and Christ centered.

Check out Scott Hahn. He was an Evangelical Presbyterian Minister...he was sure all Catholics were going to hell and he was out to save them. In doing so...the more he studied and read books trying to prove them wrong, the more he realized how right they are. He is now Catholic and goes around teaching and preaching the Catholic faith. He's amazing to listen to because he knows all verses Protestants will use and can address and disprove every one of them.

He wrote a book called Rome Sweet Home. It's his conversion story. Type his name in Google...you'll get a lot of information.

Also, check out The Coming Home Network. This is group of Protestant pastors and clergy who have become Catholic. Some amazing stories.

You should enter RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) at your local Parish. They can help you and answer a lot of questions. You can decide if you want to become Catholic.

Jesus gave the "keys" to St. Peter. St. Peter started the Catholic Church...you can't get any more original then that.

The Arabs, north Africans, Ethiopians and Assyrians formed Churches before the (Westernized) Roman Catholics.

The original Christians are the Copts, Syriac Orthodox, Armenians and such...

I am a Roman Catholic. I do believe we have it "most right". God is just to complex for any man or group of man to clame to understand.
