War is never the answer. However it is sometimes a necessity. War should never be the first avenue to solve conflict, but rather should be viewed as the last resort. The unfortunate fact is that diplomacy cannot solve every problem much as we might wish it could. Despots and dictators generally cannot be reasoned with. This does not mean that we should not try, but without the threat of force diplomacy to often fails to achieve an acceptable end. Anyone who tells you differently needs to study the history of the world.

I believe the quote goes something along the lines of "War is the failure of Diplomacy", consequently the answer to your question is that talks, trade, exchanges of ideas and appreciating that we will not always agree are far better than failed policies that lead to ever increasing body counts. We are a smart people, we can certainly learn to get along.

Anyone who believes that diplomacy is the answer learn your history. Chamberlain did everything possible to appease Hitler.
That went well, didn't it?

When Iran stormed our embassy and took hostages, Jimmy Carter talked until he was blue in the face. That went well, too, didn't it?

Diplomacy first? Of course. But when it is time for war, then bring them war. It is ugly, brutal and something to be avoided. Apparently, some ambitious tyrants need reminding.

"The tree of freedom must be watered for time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots." Sad but true.

Sometimes...war is the answer. But it must be the absolute last resort. When war is based on lies and the need to line pockets it is criminal.

Some times war is the answer (ie. WW-II and a fun guy named Adolf Hitler). In this current situation, the terrorists have decided to have a war with us weather or not we decide to fight. You cannot negotiate with someone who's goal is the eradication of your society.

There is no right answer or at least not one that we have found yet. Until we do, war will always loom on the horizon.

If war is the answer it must be a bloody stupid question.

Good question. Sanctions don't work, we've all seen that fail time and time again, it only hurts the poor. The ones in power make sure they eat and have power before they even care about the poor.
