I did not put my son's fathers name on his birth cert as he wanted no involvement with the situation. If both parents are listed on the cert, and the either of them are custodial parent and receiving social welfare the state can seek support payments from the other parent.
Spite may be a reason in some cases but not all. There are many out there who don't want the responsibility of a child but then want to come in later in the game not always a bad thing, but you have to evaluate what is best for the child if an absent parent shows up 4 or 5 years later and tries to claim partial custody.

My Mother didnt put mine or my brothers fathers names on our birth certificates. Yes we all had different fathers.
She did this because they wanted nothing to do with the children they had helped to create and left. So my Mum saw no need to identify them on the birth certificate, and in Australia for the father to be on the certificate he has to sign and fill in his details. Which obviously they werent around for.
Mum never had any problems without their names on them.
The Government did try to get her to get child suppourt but they couldnt force her as she had no idea where they were (mine went oversea's) and had no way to contact them.
Mum never tried to correct it as there wasnt any need to. She gave us all the information about our Dad's when we were old enough. So we are able to find them if we want.

In Texas if the father isn't present or if they don't sign an Acknowledgement of Paternity, the father's name cannot be added. My daughter's father was in Germany and she was early so he wasn't listed on the original. But after he signed it we had to pay $35 dollars to get a new one with his name on it.

Although I believe that soon mothers will have to declare the father, I think lack of father's name on the certificate will mean that he will have difficulty if he wishes to take guardianship of his kids over the mother, and a mother would have problems getting money from the father if he refused to help.

if u arent married they have to sig a paper saying they tak eresponsibilty for the baby without a blood test. if they dont believe it or have an id than they dont get on the birth certificate. when th etest is doneor if they get on welfare than the real father will be documented.

well, for starters, if she wants to make him pay child support after the baby is born, she will have a hard time cause he's not a part of the baby with out the paternity papers signed. he can't be forced to pay child support without signing the paternity.
