Expect a life-span of 11-18 years, although the latter is rare.

Chihuahuas have a surprisingly long life expectancy. Many chis live to be 15+ yrs. However with a lot of the poor breeding that goes on these days, some of these dogs are not so healthy and have health issues that may shorten their life span.

A lot of that depends on the quality of the dogs heritage. I have seen Chi's die at very early ages due to health issues from poor breeding practices and good stock live in to the upper teens. Of course the care the dog is provided throughout life will also be a factor.

the average life expectancy of a dog is 15 years
same goes for a chihuahua
it depends on the individual dog
if they have health problems, they may not live as long

Approximately 15 years
I have known chihuahuas survive for longer .
They are feisty little dogs in spite of their size
and do not often seem to succumb to the diseases.
that carry off other breeds
