At first I thought you were being a dirty little fella!

She should swallow anyways - since it's already in her mouth

Yes I think it is rude for you to tell her to swallow. Remember she discovers the taste when it is already in the mouth. If she is modest enough, she will use a napkin or hankie. If she isn't you may offer her one or promise to do so a next time if she has to spit something. Am sure she'll understand and feel awkwardly and know better than spitting it back on the plate. But never ask her to swallow it. It may incite regurgitation or a deep throat throw up! . . . a splash all over the table!!!

The polite thing to do would be to swallow the olive.

You could let her know when you are alone together that you would prefer it (if you do) that should the situation arise again you'd appreciate it if she just swallowed it, but it's her choice and you need to listen to her reasoning too. Imagine if that tiny olive would result in her having horrible tummy ache or worse throwing up, you wouldn't want her to go through that just because you thought it wasn't plesant to spit it out.

Oh dear god, she needs to excuse herself from the table and take care of it in the ladies room. If a trip the laies' is not an option then she needs to get a Kleenex out of her purse, cover her mouth with the Kleenex and spit it out. Don't ever spit out food into the cloth napkin at restaurants, please. That's not acceptable.

Even my 3 year old, a 36-month-old child, spits food he doesn't like into a Kleenex or paper napkin. Her parents must be so proud. I bet you want to crawl under the table and hide! I'd never go out in public with her again, she'd get drive through only.

She should not spit it back on the plate nor should she swallow it if she finds the taste repugnant. She should have removed it from her mouth with her napkin and kept the half chewed food in her napkin.

She's not a lady. A polite way for her to do it would have been to use her napkin and put that to her mouth to remove the olive. So yes if she didnt do that she should have grit her teeth and swallowed.

well I dont think I would ask you which I should do at that point. Maybe I'm wrong but I would use a napkin or go to the ladys room to spit it out.

Tell her to grab a tissue or paper serviete and remove the object into it hiding what she is doing from other peoples view. That is what a well mannered person does
