For interviews you could archive the files as MP3 (get the extra .dll filw from the download page) and you could bring the bit-rate right down, and save in relatively small files...

Don't worry, all you need is a cable that costs about a pound. It goes from the 'headphones out' socket on your tape player to the 'microphone in' socket on your pc.
Do a few test runs to get the levels right.
Audacity is easy to use and will let you split the track into seperate tracks. Play the tape and record it with Audacity.
Then you click File - Export As - mp3 or whatever your output format is.

you will need a midi interface to allow you to connect the taperecorders to the pc. M-audio make some goods one at reasonable prices, around £50. Once you have this you will need some software, like audacity, wavelab or cubase to master them into good digital recordings. it can be tricky, but not too complicated.
