...know things they have no way of knowing until you tell them? Can you hold a discussion or disagree with other people during a friendly argument without losing your temper?

Do you seriously consider the other side of the argument while you put yours out there as the TRUTH?

Yes, assuming that the man should know how you are feeling at the moment and what you want is very typical for women. I used to make that mistake a lot. Thanks to a 4-year experience in marriage, I hardly ever do that mistake again. Or if I do, I realize what I just did and tell my husband exactly how I feel and what I want. So it's a matter of practice.

About losing your temper, the key issue here is TONE OF VOICE. A friendly argument can very easily turn into a fight just because one of the parties raises her/his voice a little bit. People unconsciously react to that by raising their tone of voice and that sets the ball moving. So if you want to have a friendly argument instead of a fight, you should be the one to closely watch your tone of voice and body language.

About your additional question: Honestly, no. If you consider your point of view the TRUTH, then you are less inclined to listen to arguments defending the opposite point of view. But listening patiently helps in the sense that it makes you understand the other person's point of view, even though you disagree with it. To me, once we have clarified our points of view and we still disagree, the issue is exausted and we should drop it at that.

Yeah, most of the time I can argue about things with friends without getting angry unless I am really pissed off on that moment. Its about how good you can control your emotions. If anyone stubbornly disagree with my reasons I just let the subject drop, cause if he/she doesn't wanna understand, I cant make him/her understand.

Yes, while talking to others especially non-family members, we have to be patient, calm, cool-headed. I can do that unless it is terribly hot argument where my self-respect is at stake or someone is saying bad about my country i.e. India.

Otherwise, patience is th ekey to it.
