Hinduism is not at all a religion. It is a culture, tradition, custom and Hindus way of life. A Hindu is born to Hindus in Hindustan (India) and none can convert to Hinduism. One can have any religion of his choice (Islam or Christianity etc.) and remain a Hindu by nativity. Hinduism has patience, tolerance and power of absorbing all with no restrictions or prohibitions at all. Hinduism is thus neither old or new religion. No scholar, priest, book or script claimed it a religion. The words Hindu or Hinduism never appear in any ancient sacred Hindu book or script.

Sometimes Indians both inside and outside of India think that we are preaching the Hindu religion, but actually we are not. One will not find the word Hindu in the Bhagavad-gita. Indeed, there is no such word as Hindu in the entire Vedic literature. This word has been introduced by the Muslims from provinces next to India, such as Afghanistan, Baluchistan, and Persia. There is a river called Sindhu bordering the north western provinces of India, and since the Muslims there could not pronounce Sindhu properly, they instead called the river Hindu, and the inhabitants of this tract of land they called Hindus. In India, according to the Vedic language, the Europeans are called mlecchas or yavanas. Similarly, Hindu is a name given by the Muslims.
From the book Science of Self Realization by,
A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada,
Founder-Acharya of ISKCON
(International Society for Krishna Consciousness)
Hinduism is actually a misnomer. It should be Sanatana Dharma.
The very word "Sanatana" means that which has no beginning or end and therefore, Sanatana Dharma is by definition is eternal religion. It is based on the Vedas, which literally means knowledge. Veda also called as Sruti(that which is heard) is coming down since time immemorial through the chain of disciplic succession from guru to disciple. Vedas or Sruti were handed down through aural reception and the same thing was written down around 5000 years back.
With the teachings of God to Abraham and Moses, Judaism began around 4,500 years back.
Buddhism began with the birth of Lord Buddha around 2500 years ago.
With the birth of Jesus Christ around 2000 years,Christianity began.
With the birth of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) around 1300 years back the Holy Al' Quran came in to existence.

as far as hinduism is concerned there no word called OLD as far as hinduism is concerned. most of them feels it is a religion and few feels it is a movement. all the other religions are branches from hinduism and all the other religion has a beginning. when there is a beginning there is a end also. but for hinduism there is no beginning. all religions are accomodated by hinduism. that is one of the reason that in hindustan all other religions and temples exist without any restriction. Hinduism is the mother of all the other religion from which the other religions are born. It is like a political which is the only party existing at the time of independance and the entire country accepts that party and then slowly branch out as new party due to difference of opinion or lack of understanding and knowledge.

The Rig Veda is now accepted by scholars to be 8000 years
old. The Puranas say that the Vedas were written during
the begining of Krita Yuga, that is some 4300 millions of
years ago.
Among all countries in the world, India has inherited
the largest number of ancient manuscripts from time
immemorial. They were written on the widest range of
subjects known to humans.

Hinduism is not a religion. It's a culture. The oldest archeological artifacts of dwarka date back to 7000 B.C. Veda's never talked about Hinduism. They talked about "Sanatan Dharma". Here again "Snatan Dharma" was not stated as religion, it was a set of duties for the whole mankind for a harmonic, progressive social life.
Let me know if you could gather more information.
All the best...

It is called the Sanathana Dharma. It is reviled by its critics as the most ritualistic. But, it does not have any ritual for conversion to its own religion, even for readmitting those who had strayed from it. That means that being the only religion, in the world, it never encountered any need for conversion or reconversion.
