Believing in existense of Jesus doesn't necessarily means believing his divinity.

I'm not a Christian, so I use C.E and B.C.E.

C.E stands for Common Era, and B.C.E as Before Common Era.

The term Common Era is preferred by some as an alternative to the more overtly religious AD and BC. The year 2007 AD is the same as the year 2007 C.E.

I don't really mind what calender people use, as long as we all know what dates we are talking about!

Actually it wasn't BC before that at all. If you were to invent a time machine and go back to 100bc and ask what year you were in, you wouldn't be able to find anybody who'd tell you it was 100bc.

Why do you direct this question at atheists? Surely it should be directed at all non-Christians? But if every religion (and atheists/agnostics) had its own calendar, communication would be next to impossible.

Or to ask a similar question, why do you use the word 'Thursday'. Don't you know it comes from 'Thor's Day' - do you believe in Thor? By your logic, you'd rather die than use this word...

Using BC is just a way of making sure that we are all talking about the same year. Some people do use a different way of numerating the years depending on their religion.

I'm an athiest and I use BC because if we all started using our own system then there would be choas. Besides, athiests believe that Christ existed, they just dont believe that he was the son of God ( or that there is a God ).

So you not only want us to shut our mouths and keep our opinions to ourselves, not have other equal rights with christians, we are now also ment to work by a dating system that no one else follows?

For starters the date was not made until around 325 ad. That means that in the year 200ad, no one called it 'the year 200ad'. Also, The christians cant even determine a true birth date of Jesus, no doubt because Jesus never even existed.
Also, why do christians use all the pagan mythology in their religion that predated christianity by 1000's of years?
The Lake of Fire is greek pagan mythology not ancient hebrew.

So why do christians celebrate christmass when its a pagan celebration??

Why do christians say 'Monday','tuesday' 'thursday' etc These are named after roman Gods. And what about January, febuary, march, april, may, june etc, more gods.

or how about Mercury, venus mars, jupiter, Saturn etc.... more Gods.
Gonna start using different names now mss christian???

I dont want to try a faith that is going to make me a hypocrite like yourself. So Are you going to STOP USING ALL THOSE OTHER NAMES like you CLAIMED you would do, even if it meant death??????

I agree with Hectic. There probably was a person born 2007 yrs ago who had followers, but only due to his charisma and intelligence and bravery to speak out against the authorities of the time, not becuase he had any divine origin.

Becuase we have to communicate. You say "Atheist" - even though they go against jesus.

2007-03-06 21:34:56 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Now you are just being 'silly'.

Atheists are people who do not believe in a god or gods (or other immaterial beings), or who believe that these concepts are not meaningful.

Some atheists put it more firmly and believe that god or gods do not exist.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Its not like your quoting the bible when you put 2007ad- and there is bce and ace (before common erra and after common erra)
