Let's face it: love it, hate it - immigrants are here to stay otherwise nobody's going to pay for your fat NHS and housing benefits bills. Considering that a sizeable population in the UK is "greying" and unproductive (and I discount all 20-yr old Football fans), you need young people to run this engine and most of them - the Polish, the Eastern Europeans, the Indians and even the Nigerians must be hard-working and decent enough so be thankful.

What are your excuses this time?

i am engaged to an immigrant from india and he certainly works alot harder than anyone british i know. you see - all the people who are racist - indians know they have to work for money. in india, there is no such thing as the dole. you work to live. my fiance came to this country to better himself educationally, then he was going to go back but he met me. he is now working and doing a very hard job. he pays taxes (which pays for the lazy dole claimers) and is entitled to work in this country.

i am on the side of the questioner. i am sometimes ashamed to call myself british . they have this pre formed idea, mostly from newspapers that all immigrants are illegal or out to get what they can from the uk. take some time to get to know the personal circumstances and then maybe you all won't be so narrow minded.

as for the comment about the mosques being built, every one is entitled to a place of worship. you should be proud to live in such a diverse country, and be more accepting of other peoples cultures.

hmmm we're not going to apologise, even those of us who left the UK for a better lifestyle, lower taxes, shorter hours and longer vacations elsewhere in the EU - like ME !!!

In the global financial Corporation I work for here in Luxembourg, we are currently contracting several large multinational Indian and Chinese companies to build software for us as part of our regional offshore strategy within Europe - and I can tell you that these companies have the same diversity of work ethic as any Western company. Some people are stressed and some are laid back, some work hard, some are lazy and useless. Also, the last major regional development project we ran was almost a failure because of the inability of the offshore company to do what we wanted, plus there were big communication issues too.

Funny how that article was printed in an Indian publication isn't it?

I've read in the past similar articles that raise issues with the employability of some so-called professionals in India and beyond...and those articles were in British or American magazines...

I think you generalise too much - most people don't mind migrants coming to the UK to work hard and better their lives, if they integrate a little, learn the language, accept that their Islam is just one of several in a multicultural society... the big issue are illegal immigrants who somehow manage to get some benefits, thus straining the entire system...

Bit of a narrow view of the world,
There is good and bad in every nationality so stereotypical, blind and bigoted opinions just make the person that express them look a little naive.
Businesses will use the hard working, decent, creative and useful workers of any country, but as the business must make a profit the cheapest workforce will be engaged.
Cheap = cost effective = bigger profit,

Question if every immigrant is so hardworking why do the need to go to another country when with hardwork they could make it in their own country, The problem is more complex and deep seated then you seem to understand.
What we might say is the immigrant workforce of any country undervalues their service or is undervalued by the people the work for.

Someone seems a little angry today!

I agree a lot of us are lazy and unmotivated to do our jobs, but when you've lived here and worked hard all your life and you still can't afford to buy a house, your boss is a prick and you get taxed on absolutely everything possible, its pretty hard to wake up in the morning with a smile and a spring in your step.

No one here really has a problem with hard working people coming over to work and live, its the lazy scroungers that just come for benefits and free healthcare that we don't want.

I live in London and I have noticed a big increase in the number of eastern Europeans living here, all the ones i've met speak great English and work for their money.

Unfortunately we make it too easy for people to settle here and we are slowly being overrun and we need to do something, we take more than our fair share of immigrants while other European countries simply refuse and send them to us. This is not fair and needs to be addressed.

We are certainly not unproductive or useless as a country, a lot of the modern technology we all use, like the mobile phone and the internet were British desgined, we have the 4th biggest economy in the world and we are one of the smallest nations, our business and financial service skills are in demand the world over.

We make no apologies for not wanting scroungers and ponces in our country, we don't have enough money to run our hospitals and educate our kids properly so excuse us if we want to do something about the billions of pounds we 'give' away each year to lazy immigrants.

We don't need to make excuses, this is our country.

Most of the overseas doctors,dentists opticians etc. from abroad were taught in this country at the lazy unproductive uncreative useless expense, because their own countries were too backward to afford training some of these countries still employ witch doctors and are begging us every day on T.V to give money to help third world countries get sight operations.

As for the greying population, they unwittingly invited the ungrateful,uneducated troublemakers with open arms, thankfully we will soon be rid of them after the next election.

The U.K corporates who are making money by employing these people who will do ANYTHING to make a £1.00 days are numbered, but even these people know if you pay peanuts you employ monkeys.

So ever single British person is lazy. is that right. I think you may be thinking of a small percentage who can't be arsed to get a job. Like a small percentage. Once you have finished on your soap may I borrow it? Some immigrants are lazy and are here for the free benefits and never intead to get a job. Swings and round abouts. I rather like the idea of a controlled migrant workforce, its the people who travel here to commit crimes in organised crime rings and the NHS tourists and those that chose not to except the British Christian way of life and blow everyone up. First of all...
Well there is a world of difference between the legal and illegals. there is a world of difference between the people who come here to work, and those who come to use (and abuse) our health and welfare system.

secondly....
Lets take a little hypothetical example of bussiness values:
I would never consider doing the job of cockle picking for £1 per hour. An illegal immigrant will do that sort of work without complaint.
The *cockle picking business community* might think that is fantastic for business, and may think I am lazy because I wont stoop to that sort of work. What do you think?

Well, excuse me but every country has a section of society that want everything for nothing but the majority of Britons are hard workers - including myself, I'm not at work at 10 am midweek because I should be asleep after my nightshift with a possible nightshift tonight and three more before the end of the week with two day shifts already behind me this week.

However, I welcome immigrants who are going to work hard and obey the laws in our country; that's all we ask but saying that, some immigrants are here purely for economic reasons, they want to make a quick buck as easily as possible.

As for the British, why should any of us apologise for living in our own country, why should we have to integrate, surely the only integrating to be done are by the newcomers? And WHY can't we get angry when we are constantly told that we are useless, feckless, no good and should bend over backwards to appease those new to our shores who quite obviously despise us?

Its not as simple as saying people hate imigrants.
I think you will find people hate wasters and spongers whether they be nationals or imigrants.
there is no problem with imigrants who work and contribute to the country. I moved to Ireland and therefore I am an Imigrant here, but I dont expect something for nothing.
The Brits have enought problems with our own state scroungers so it go against the grain when you get imigrant scroungers as well.

How dare you generalise, I used to work in a huge corporation with almost a 50% immigration workforce, believe me there were equal amounts of LAZINESS and UNPRODUCTIVENESS. In fact many of the immigrants got away with murder because they would accuse you of racism for just telling them to pull their socks up, as you would tell ANY other member of the workers.

If it is true that they work harder, Maybe it's because they are used to working in a sweat shop environment in their own countries and scared of being punished?

And why do you say EVEN the Nigerians?
