I have two VERY RARE neuro-vascular disorders, leaving me disabled. My husband is the only one working (obviously), so money is incredibly tight. In fact, my prescriptions (16 of them a month!!) adds up to $1395.00!! Not to mention all the OTHER bills! I am desperate for some guidance...we seriously need help! (And yes, I DO have Health Insurance, but it is not a very good one due to having several "pre-existing" conditions, and the prescription part of it is a JOKE! I do NOT qualify for most of the "prescription assistance" programs BECAUSE I have insurance with prescription coverage (despite the fact the coverage SUCKS!).
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need help...PLEASE shoot me a note if you have any suggestions!!

I would recommend getting in touch with NeedyMeds.com or PPA (the one that they have the commercials for on tv). Also check for government benefits by going to http://www.firstgov.gov (the government's website home page) and click on where it says "find government benefits".

Doing a search thru the site I found this other link that may be of help to you: http://www.disabilityinfo.gov/digov-public/public/DisplayPage.do?parentFolderId=500

Hope this is of some help.

Investigate whether you might be better off without the Health Insurance (or with another company), but qualifying for a prescription assistance program. There are many ways to cut costs, yet still live healthily: eat oatmeal for breakfast, beans, peas, a serve of green and a serve of yellow/orange vegetable, with a little meat, fish or chicken for dinner, a grapefruit or orange, and toast or sandwiches at other times (your husband's tastes need considering here; he has to work). Visit the library for books on household tips; you can dispense with many products by using cheaper substitutes, like ammonia, borax, washing soda and vineger. Cut power bills by only heating one room, and wearing warm clothes and headwear. Turn appliances off at the power point, and get low wattage fluorescent bulbs, turning lights off when you leave a room. Don't go out more than necessary, and accelerate and brake gently and smoothly, when driving. Do the more lucrative online surveys. Search for a cheaper I.S.P. Actively look for ways to save on costs. Do you have both a landline and mobile cellular phone? Use I.M. & email & text more. Forget fashion, fanciness and frippery. Extend, substitute, make do, do without & repair/mend. 10% - 25% savings are quite possible!

Hopefully you are on disability. If not, you need to get busy and apply for it. Go to your county welfare office and fill out an application. It doesn't matter what services you need, the goal is to get a social worker assigned to you. He/She will be able to help you find other resources. Perhaps there is a foundation that is set up with the specific disorder you have. Ask about a patient advocate, this person can help you get access to services you may need but can't afford. At the very least they should be able to give you a list of resources. Of course, you'll have to do all the leg work. Unfortunately, having health insurance is probably a henderance to your cause.

Also, contact the social security office and ask for the same kind of information. Get a social worker assigned to you. If you already have one, talk to them, hound them for more help/information about where you can get more help.

Good luck

I'm really sorry for ur predicament. Most health unsurance schemes are doulble edged & with tags that one really wonders how they work. I feel that if u go thro some directories or social issue journals u may come across some non government organizations who work & assist people with disabilities.Alternately try putting up a small ad in your paper to the effect & see the response.
