What's the best Media Player for viewing downloaded movies, and do they have to be encoded before you can burn them to a disc?

I like Power DVD but I enjoy Real Player also. Yes they need to be encoded/shrank using DVD Shrink before you can burn them or they'll be to big for a blank DVD.
