Could well be the cause. You are already under investigation, so things should already be well in hand.

Commonest patient we see with anaemia is a menstruating female who either has heavy periods or commonly a low red meat intake. If you do have an iron deficiency anaemia it is easy to manage with iron supplements.

Being anemic can cause general fatigue and cause you to be short of breath. You're blood carries oxygen to your body which it needs for energy. If your blood level is low then you're not getting this energy. Depending upon the severity of the anemia you may go from barely noticing this to barely being able to move.

Anemia diminishes the capability of individuals who are affected to perform physical activities. This is a result of one's muscles being forced to depend on anaerobic metabolism. The lack of iron associated with anemia can cause many complications, including hypoxemia, brittle or rigid fingernails, cold intolerance, impaired immune function, and possible behavioral disturbances in children.

Hypoxemia resulting from anemia can worsen the cardio-pulmonary status of patients with pre-existing chronic pulmonary disease. Brittle or rigid fingernails may be a result of abnormal thinness of nails due to insufficient iron supply. Cold intolerance occurs in one in five patients with iron deficiency anemia, and becomes visible through numbness and tingling. Impaired immune functioning leading to increased likelihood of sickness is another possible complication.

There are various symptoms of anemia and when I had it I was just plain tired - but a short course of iron tablets made me better. From what i gather mine was brought on by a thyroid problem though again there are various reasons.
