can budgies/parakeets, really talk?

yes, i read somewhere that they can talk, or learn your whistle. i've had mine for about 2 days now, and one of them chirps back when i whistle to it. its kinda funny :). i haven't heard any of them talk yet, though.

Yes the males can be very good talkers. Buy only one though...if you have more than one they talk to each other in bird and won't learn to speak human. The best method is to keep the cage covered and say the same thing over and over to them for about half an hour a day...stick to the same thing...such as 'pretty boy'. Repeat it when you interact with the budgie too. Good luck.

It depends on their personality, but generally if you stick with it, you can teach them to talk. With a little training, you can also get them to do tricks; I've even had a few budgies over the years which always wanted to share my food and drink with me, and was especially fond of vegemite on toast and coffee - until he fell in the mug, which was thankfully empty at the time.

they will learn to repeat what they hear. A slow high pitched voice works best and they may repeat the sound very fast, so listen carefully.

They can also mimic telephones, dorrbells , dogs barking .
