You will be given a sick note by the hospital or your GP , Take thier advice for how long you need off work , they are the experts.
As long as you are fully employed there shouldnt be a problem.

Good luck and try not to worry.

you should not use your holiday time, if you are having surgery and the consultant reconmends you have r&r time then the hospital should provide you with a doctors note which will cover you for a short period, your own gp can also provide you with a note, so don't use your holiday time. it is classed as time off sick, if you have your notes they cannot do anything about it, make sure you are covered.
good luck with the surgery.

If you want to go on sick then your fully entitled to do so but SSP is only £70.05 per week. If you don't mind using up some of your holidays then at least it will put a little more in your pay packet!!

Contact your supervisor or HR department and let them know your situation. Then Get a sick note from you doctors and send it into work, it should be classed as 'off sick/post operation/hospitalisation'.

You should also check your sickness entitlement too.

Do you get sick pay from your job,if you do they will pay your normal wages while you are off,if not your employer wll pay you ssp which is statutory sick pay from the government.

It isnt a lot though and if it will leave you in financial difficulty you can get it topped up by the dhss.

on discharge at the hospital they can give you the relevant sicknote for post operative surgery. remember to tell them on your admission so they can organise it ready for discharge.
speak to your employer and makes sure he is aware that you will be claiming sick pay for that duration, also to check that you are entitled. good luck with the op and have a nice rest!
