Nope, if you have done a pregnancy test they trust that, as they are so good these days. He will work out your due date, register you with a midwive and give you your places of birth options. You can tour them when your further gone, it's quite good. He might take your BP and weight, but they don't bother with too much at this stage, purely because of the risk of miscarriage before 12 weeks, which incidently is when they will next want to see you. congratulations!!xxxxxx

When I first rang to make an appointment I was asked to bring in a urine sample. I dropped it off a few days earlier so that the results would be back for my appointment. Doctor took my blood pressure, asked when my last period began, checked about taking folic acid and asked about which hospital I would choose to go to as I'm in between two. He did not give me a due date gave me forms to fill in and I made an appointment to see the Midwife for 4 weeks later where i think they will do My blood tests and family history then. Good Luck and Congratulations

If you are in the UK, I think it's very unlikely that the doctor will confirm with a blood test unless you really push for one and have a good reason for it. Home tests are very reliable and doctors don't want to waste money on unnecessary blood tests.
At my appointment, I told the doctor I was pregnant. He said 'oh, that's nice. Ask the receptionist for the number for the local midwives'. And that was it!
In some areas the doctor will write you a letter that gets sent to the local midwives and they will contact you. In other areas you have to contact them. Just make sure you establish how it works in your area otherwise you might end up sitting around for weeks waiting to be contacted when in fact you have to contact them!
You should have your first midwife appointment when you are about 10 weeks.

To add to Joanne m, the docs give you folic acid (vitamin B) too, this prevents spina bifida in babies. You get weighed and asked for family medical history of diabetes. The due date will be calculated too. The midwife from there on looks after you and you only need to see the doc if you have any problems. You will be given a pregnancy record sheet to record all you appointments and midwife examinations including your blood pressure at the time and urine test samples. These have to be taken with you everytime you go see the midwife.
Good luck, have fun!

My doctors just took a routine urine sample, and took my telephone number to pass on to the midwife, who rang me a couple of days later and made an appointment to come to my house the following week, when she took blood pressure, my medical history, and my family history. She also told me what all the blood tests are for that I would be having at my next appointment, and sent my details off to the hospital to book me in for a dating scan, she also went through things like diet and lifestyle. Nothing scary! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Firstly CONGRATULATIONS! You have a very exciting time ahead!
They should not need to confirm your pregnancy if you have got a +ve. Take along a urine sample for them to test routinely. They will check your blood pressure and pulse and go through general health questions with you. They will then refer you to the midwife who should take over your care at the surgery. Blood tests should not be necessary yet, depending on your stage of pregnancy.
Lots and lots of Luck for the future and take good care of yourself.

not sure how they do it in UK, but when i went in to my dr appt. in US, they just gave me a pregnancy test and set up my next appt and gave me prenatal vitamins. it was really quick and not bad visit at all. i think the hardest part was being so nervous before i went in!

UK is probally totalling different. Most DR's do an ultrasound at 8-10 weeks here. (US) And a pelvic exam to make sure everything feels right. Theya sk you family history. Its lame!
