I went on a 1 month vacation of sorts to a friends house across country. I've never left my 3 year old female cat before, and I wasn't worried. She was the first cat I had, but now there are 7 other cats in the house. 4 Kittens and 2 adults, As well as my roommate who's shes fully accustomed to. Before I left, she has always been my most affectionate cat. I can hold her upside down, in any position and she's fully trusting. I can pet her for hours, she never scratches or bites or even hisses. She just loves on me and licks me like crazy.
I came back from my trip. My other cats took to me instantly, but her.. she was hissing, and wailing and whenever I tried to pet her, she'd wack me hard drawing blood every time. Since then (I've been home 48 hours now) we've "made up" She now cuddles with me like before, but is still a little skittish. Before, an atomic bomb would have to go off to startle her, but now she's jumpy.. So what happened? why did my baby start hating me for awhile?

Well DUH Dragonrider. I understand that.. but I was asking why SHE acted this way, when all the other cats were PERFECTLY fine. Like I never left.

Cats Are Very Territorial. That mans a cat feels a stranger has invaded his/her territory. In a case like that, a cat may be aggressive in route of one cat -- usually the most ordinary-going -- yet pleasant to a distinct. The time even as issues crop up is even as a clean kitty arrives, a smooth kitten will develop right into a adult cat, or the living house cat seems out the window to make certain an odd cat contained in the backyard -- the living house cat could chase, ambush, hiss, and/or meow angrily. And it’s no longer only the lads. lady cats could properly be only as infuriated by technique of strangers.

She was angry with you for leaving her. You were her chosen person, and then you went away. She was traumatized.
My cat, Tika, was the most loving cat I ever saw, until I dared to go to the mall for a whole day. I came home to every curtain removed and all the stuff on shelves dumped onto the floor. She ripped up my entire house and then pooped in the center of my bed.
When I came home, she hissed at me and ran out and for a whole week I could not get her to come in.
Finally, she got over it. They really hold grudges when they are left behind.
My advice is keep loving her and reassuring her. She's just angry at you for leaving her. She will forgive you...because ultimately, if she didn't love you, she wouldn't be upset in the first place.
Good luck!

Because you left for awhile. She probably didn't know why you left her, and was uncomfortable with you being gone. She was un-familar with the scents on your clothes when you returned, and she was kind of in a "You left, don't touch me"
Give her a couple of weeks to a month to let things get back to normal. Spend as much time with her as possible (and as much as she will allow, don't force unwanted affection. Hissing, and growling are the main signs that you just need to give her space and have her come to you.)

You left her, and she doesn't know why.
All she knows is that her "Human" was gone.
She felt abandoned by you.
She probably took longer to come around than the other cats because as you said, she was the first cat you ever had and you'd never left her before.
Also, you don't smell the same way to her now as you did when you left...you had one month of all kinds of different smells on you.
The long and short of it is, that most cats simply do not take well to any change in their environment.

Well - you left. For no reason that she can understand. She's mad at you for deserting her. Also, you probably brought some really strange smells with you on your clothes and skin when you came back.
Many cats react offended after being "deserted" for a while - often, those that are especially bonded to "their" person are the worst in that respect.
Don't worry - she was just "punishing" you for a bit, but she'll get over it/forgive you and things will be back to normal. :)

Whenever I have had to leave my babies and are unable to take them with me, I hold each one of them and kiss them and tell them bye but mommy will be back! Even tho I have never gone out of the country I called them and had the person put them on speaker phone so I could talk to them. It worked wonders. Sounds like this particular cat is extremely attached to you and they do get attitudes when left alone like that. Give the cat time. She will be back to her loving self soon. Also, are you sure nothing happened to her while you were gone?

sorry but I don't think cats have a long memory. She has just forgotten you. With cats it's the food that is important. She is obviously more skittish than the others perhaps a more nervous past? To get back in her good books you have to be kinder and provide the extra special treats and the important scratches and the extra warmth eventually it will get back to as it was before; try not to stay away so long or you will be back at the beginning again!
