All those on here advocating violence against immigrants should be reported to the police. Among the mostly sensible answers to this question here (and I include most of those I disagree with as being at least sensible), there are a few advocating bodily harm and even murder. I am absolutely appalled. At the very least Yahoo should be informed of this. I am really starting to think that questions on immigration on this site are simply being used as a mouthpiece by extreme right wing groups, (who are very unrepresentative of the public in the UK as a whole). This disgusting twisted ideology of hatred must be stopped for the sake of every decent law abiding citizen of this country.

Now - to answer the question. I notice you didn't make any distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. Steps certainly need to be taken to reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering the UK, or preferably stop them getting in all-together. Legal immigrants, on the other hand, have as much right to live here as anybody else, and should be welcomed as useful and productive members of our society.

Absolutely. All prosperous countries like US, Canada & Europe need to do so. Especially the UK because their space/land is limited. Most that migrate are not professional, so they bring the country standards & schooling down. If it was just a few it would be okay, but they keep coming and there will be a lot of problems unless the country will lay down the law and tell them how it is, like no 'free lunch'. They will over populate the country, which is usually why they left their own country and.....'no over populated country is prosperous'. If they had one or two kids ok, but they usually have a half a dozen. It is a criminal shame they have kids they can't provide for. Why should a properous country absorb them when they continue doing things that will bring a country down.

The next you know, they want to change your country which will cause a financial burden to regular citizens. Germany is having a severe drain on its economy because of it. The US is seeing many changes because of it. For example, we now have to put things in Spanish; most Mexicans that come to the Us are poor, from big families, and somewhat illiterate and have brought our education system down to a lower level. They will turn the U.S. into another Mexico which is poor country for the majority and over populated.

We have street signs in Chinese, Japanese & Viet Namese, the Muslins & them don't want our religion in parts of our system, like "in God we trust" on our coins, etc.etc. etc. it offends them.
If the immigrants would just blend it, it would be ok, but they want to milk our system, demand benefits, change our ways, culture, etc.

From what I've seen & read, many residents in the U.K. are very unhappy with all the foreigners that have come in and with the problems they have caused. It will only be worse. It will become the same situation as what happened in the U.S. when the Indians let the immigrants come to their country. No more American Indians. They are the minority and lost their land, customs, etc. because of it.

All you right-wing extremist anti-immigrationists will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes.

I thought I was a loony till I saw some of the idiotic bigoted answers on here.

Of course the number of immigrants shouldn't be reduced , except if they came into the UK illegally.

To all those Nazi thugs who talk about killing or maiming immigrants - I hope you all die horrible and painful deaths yourself.

I might have to have a talk to some of my friends in the ANL about this site.

Yes, we should have started in the 1950s. We are a British society not a multicultural one! I personally don't care if people come here, I just don't want them to over populate the native populations of Britain.

And plus we are a small country as it is, and we cannot hold many more people.

you can do that now because you have white east Europeans to do all the dirty work for now, but as soon as they become prosperous and middle class, you would be looking for more illegal immigrants to work for pittance. because of this pittance wage the economy grew faster than ever before due to the self employed people earning more and investing.
it's a vicious circle, I'm afraid to say. when ever a country is content with the economy, then the migrants become an issue: they become a political point scoring battle field. what you are hearing from the government is just rhetorics, they know how vital the illegals are to the agriculture industry, where most of the so called illegals are employed. when ever a government wants to hide or deflect attention from the main issues in which they are making a mess of, then suddenly they have to come up with an idea to grab headlines. with the rise of nationalism and racism, this is the way to win votes which are dwindling. I'm not a lefty apologist in any shape or form, its just these illegal migrants don't have access to health or social security any way, they also don't have any right to a council house. they are exploited by their employers and their land lords. land lords have become very greedy and are always on the lookout for illegal migrants to rent their property for a high rate. illegals pay twice more than the locals when it comes to accommodation.

YES -- these people have their own homeland, their own countries. Why can't they work to better their own countries instead of abandoning their families and communities?

Are they that less capable than the Brits, Scotts, Welsh and Irish? The English for example had to bust their humps to build their country into what it is now. So why can't these foreigners do the same? Aren't they just as smart and productive?

Keep in mind that the flood of foreigners into the UK will eventually cause the English, Welsh, Scotts and Irish to become refugees in their own country. You guys will lose your homeland by 2100 at this rate. As the foreigners will still have their homelands perfectly intact and NOW OWN YOURS!

You or your children or younger members in your family will be governmed by these people who will have ties to their ethnic homelands. You'll be taking orders from Asia.

I think what you have to understand before you go making sweeping statements about immigration, is that the UK economy has historically depended on waves of immigration over the years, much of it contributing to the rich cultural life that is now on offer, if you are to suddenly propose ceasing immigration the UK would face a real problem.

Good heavens without immigration you'd still be talking in terms of dead cow and pig rather than beef and pork. For an island nation made up of so many different races and creeds the British as a whole are incredibly xenophobic at times!

only if you are equally happy to accept restrictions on the numbers of people from this country who emigrate to other countries. In the interests of fairness.

Yes,there isn't enough room on this island to keep allowing more in..Furthermore,we already have a housing problem with people living rough etc but new folk come in and accommodation is found..I believe charity begins at home..

Yes. Quite simply this little country is overfull. Look at the traffic problems, cost of housing, even the water supply. If the only way to support the economy is ever increasing production and consumption we have got it badly wrong.
