My budgie does that too. I wouldn't be worried. They just play with anything and entertain themselves in bizzarre ways. I suppose if my brain was that small I would probably find chewing on things entertaining too, lol.

Birds in general like to chew things, especially budgies. I got my budgie a "toy" called Shredders- its a long strip of braided paper made specifically for birds to chew on. You cut a piece off, knot it up in a couple of places, and lace it through the bars. My budgie loves this stuff!

birds are natural chewers, and they chew on anything and everything. They do this to keep their beak in shape. Not all budgies will chew thier cuttlebone, especially if it is big and horizontal, because it makes them think they are prey with something hovering over it like that. Mine wouldnt touch its cuttlebone either. But what you can do is get a mineral block. Its good for them, and it will help keep their beak down, and give them something to chew on other than plastic.

female birds do this when they want to mate. I would put a nesting box in there and let them at it! Babies are no trouble at all to care for, the parents take care of all that. It just costs a little more to pay for food. you can even sell the babies for more green!
