Never. Jesus said the poor will always be with you. Poor people need Christianity because: #1, they rely on the charity of others for some of their basic needs and #2, they need to know how beloved they are in the eyes of God, knowing that this world is not the be-all, end-all and that all those mean, greedy people who deny them their basic rights and needs will get their just desserts while the poor will receive their just rewards.

Christians are much to busy trying to convince everyone that humans and dinosaurs shared the Earth to help fight poverty. Sadly, so may other religions won't take money from their congregations/followers and don't have the money to help. Poor people don't need Christianity, but you are right, without the poor, how would the Church convince people to give them so much money.

Not gonna happen. Poverty has little to do with morality (except for the state-sponsored features which cause poverty, and could thus be called immoral), and Christianity has nothing to do with it at all.

Poverty is a sad fact of life. God gave us free will when he created us. Sadly, through our choices throughout the years, we have created class and poverty. Through our greed and wrong choices, bad things have happened.
The church doesnt NEED poverty, but if you take a look, throughout the years of history, Christians have tried to help those suffering from it.

Poor people get what they deserve and work for just like everybody else in the world. They are poor because they choose to be poor. And you want to take away their choice? or just reward them for being unmotivated? God helps people who help themselves. So do I.
