%%%First of all check out three books from the library about dogs and dog training. When talking with your mom, just bring up casually something that you just learned from the books.

%%%Ask her if you can volunteer at your local shelter to help dogs, and learn more. (most shelters have a petting room, or a dog walking program, and need volunteers to just give animals attention)

%%%Study the books about choosing the right breed for your family, and comment on this often to her.

%%%Ask if you can give a dog from the shelter foster care for a week to see how a dogs fits in your family

%%%Do ALL chores as soon as asked

%%% Keep your room clean, and show that you are growing up and accepting responsibility.

.If you can do all of the above, and let your mom know how much you understand all of the problems that come with a dog, she may be willing to consent....
If your mom doesn't allow you a dog, you need to realize that it is HER choice..
She will be the one ultimately and legally responsible for your pet..dogs live to be about 15 years old, with good nutrition..so your mom will have to face caring for the dog in its old age, if you are off to college or marry , or live in a large city where you can't have a pet..
It costs at least $450 per year to keep a dog, for shots, worming, food, plus any emergency vet care...It is your mom's carpet to be ruined, furniture to be chewed, vacations to consider boarding, obedience classes to drive you and ***** to, sleepless nights to put up with....
Dogs are a whole LOT of problems and responsibility! If you get a medium to large dog, your momt's insurance rates will go up..

So, if she still says 'NO' you need to be mature and thoughtful enough to accept it...and to know she isn't refusing just out of meaness..

I saw a tv show in the UK once where the family had a pretend dog. They were (two kids and the dad) trying to prove to the mother that they could care for the dog. They fed it and took it on walks and everything. It was very funny and just may work. You need to ask your mother what you can do to prove you will take care of the dog yourself. Dogs aren't cheap. There are lots of things to pay for after you get the animal. Good luck.

Hi Sweety.
I'm a dog lover myself so i know how u feel. some parents just don't like dogs.they think of them as nuisances requiring walks, special food and making too much noise. what they don't know is that a dog can give u unconditional love without asking for anything in return. u will have to convince ur mom. read out touching stories from books. of course, u will have to promise to take a few responsibilities too.

P.S.: Buy 'Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul' and read out stories from it to ur mom. She will melt, guaranteed!

You can do what I did! All I did was keep asking for awhile and then even when they said no I would keep asking. Then they said never! I was so sad. I did the "I'm mad at you" cry. It worked! They felt so bad that I had no one to play with they said finally I could! Now I have a cute little puppy of almost 1 year old.

Hmmmm my only advice is to keep nagging! It worked with my mum, she eventually cracked and let me get my rats, which by the way are like small dogs. She also hates cats and I almost got her to let me get a cat, :) I'm a genuise :) :)
