Contact the court there. Different municipalities and the state charge different costs. It shows on the back of the ticket where to find out. The cost to insurance is up to your individual company, but it may well affect your rates, partricularly if you have priors or accidents.

You are not going to find any information about this on the ticket: California tickets do not work that way. The fine will be set in accordance with a state-wide schedule, so will be within a few dollars one way or the other of $146. It does not make any sense to hire a lawyer for this. It will be one point on your record, which might affect your insurance (depending upon your record, time with the company, etc.)

If you have not gone in the past 18 months, you will be given a traffic school option (this is usually mailed to you). It will be the cost of the fine, plus an administrative fee and the cost of traffic school. There are lots of schools online. That will prevent the point and your insurance company will not be informed.

Do yourself a favor and hire a lawyer to fight the ticket.

It'll cost maybe $300 for a lawyer and he should be able to get it reduced to a non-moving violation with a fine and court costs around $125.

BUT, you won't get any points on your license and your insurance will not go up. It will pay for itself in one year AND you usually don't even have to go to court!

About 250, won't effect unless you've got another in 3 years back, if so goto traffic school on this one.
