i would like to be able to push a button everytime my dog barks to train him to stop barking, something that will either spray in his face or be enough annoyance for him to learn that everytime he barks, he gets sprayed or shocked.

A barking dog can be frustrating for both owners and neighbours. It is also the number one reason for euthanasia for dogs in Western countries. There are collars available that do what you are requesting but while they can be useful (except shock collars - they are illegal for good reason) they should not be used as a first step. Dogs bark for lots of reasons. Mostly they bark because when they do they get attention or they are bored. Often owners do the wrong thing when their dog barks, they go outside and tell their dog off. Soon you teach them each time they bark you will appear and dogs dont really care if it is good or bad attention. If you went out only when the dog was quiet or it was allowed in only when it was quiet, it would soon stop barking. Still, it can be difficult to keep them occupied if they barking from boredom. Walk them every day and give them toys (change them each day) things should improve. If your dog barks when it greets you, walk away and do not speak to it. Always do this until your dog doesnt bark when approach then make a big fuss. Be consistent if your dog barks always use the same approach and your dog will learn much faster ie. immediate separation from you. Try to teach your dog that the bark yard is a quiet area and all games where your dog loves to bark are done at the park or outside the yard. There is also the bucket of water technique. ie keeping a bucket of cold water next to the door and if your dog barks throw it at them without saying a word. In some areas, if your in a situation where there is no other choice, you can request a debarking surgery - this is a controversial option but can be better than euthanasia. Be consistent and things will improve. Good luck

I am not sure what you mean by "can i somehow make a....collar" because it would be extremely cruel or even criminal to make one yourself. I don't like the idea of a shock collar but I have a barking dog problem and I am looking for a safe bark collar with a sound or vibration as a last resort. I wouldn't get the citronella spray one because dogs could have allergies to it. Plus the dog is barking out of stress and any of these items might cause him more stress. I have found some information and have signed up for an obedience class at the local Humane Society. Call or visit them for more advice.

That's evil!!.. I would never do that to my dog... but with that said. I actually saw a lady at a dog park that had a shocking collar with a remote so when the dog misbehaved she would push a button and give the dog a little shock it actually worked really well and the dog did become more obedient but as far as I know she had bought it at the pet store. so I know it does exist I'm just not sure where to buy it from....

"Shock collars" already exist, and if you insist on using one to train your dog not to bark so much, I would suggest buying an already manufactured one. I really wouldn't mess with hobbying around and cobbling up a device that delivers an electric shock to a living creature.

You could yourself get a spray bottle of water, though, and try that instead of going the shock collar route.

Please, if you're going to use that sort of collar, use a citronella one rather than an electric shock one. And, don't bother making your own as there are plenty on the market that are calibrated to deliver the right amount of spray. Particularly if you're going to go with the electric one, you really want it to be controlled. The last thing you want to do is zap your dog too hard because your home made collar is too harsh. There's a video online in my sig that shows how uncomfortable a shock collar is.

I have read the answers given to you and they do not surprise me at all. Yes, there are bark collars that activate themselves when the dog barks and there are electric collars that you control as well. Both have been out for a number of years and both work extremely well in the hands of an experienced trainer. Good luck to you.

Don't get the shock ones they DON'tT work & they are inhumane - a man I know tested on on his leg & couldn't walk on it for at leat an hour afterwards .

the ones that spray citronella are more effective but training your bog not to bark would be the best idea

training would be a better solution.... did you buy a breed of dog that is known to bark ( beagle, basset, etc. etc.) When is your dog barking?? at what is your dog barking at??? if you figure this stuff out it should be very easy to train your dog
