It depends on how much time you have. If you are talking a month or so then I would suggest trying to do 20 minute runs everday for the next two or so weeks. If they seem easy you can boost it to around 30 or so per do. After a couple weeks of just regular runs do some speed training. Do things such as repeat 400s (quarter miles) and 800s (half miles). Your goal for these would be to run the 800s around the pace you want to run the mile in, and for the 400s to be slightly faster. Give your self a rest of somewhere between how long it takes you to run either the 400 or 800 and twice that time. Hope this helps.

Btw. Lifting and Core workouts are also very beneificial if you would have time to do those 3 days a week.

You should start off by running a quarter mile for time and then add another quarter mile every week until you're running two miles. Then you'll have more than enough endurance to run a mile in competition.

merely run the first section slower, its a basic mistake to run the first section too quickly!(: also run some miles sometime except music prepare, which will fairly help your staying power!(: Thats the most suitable advice, correct there. And if all else fails, try a shorter distance, the 400m and 800m are considered distance activities too(: sturdy luck!
