How do you go about having any kind of a social life? How do you go about meeting anyone or dating other than posting some profile online and hoping you get lucky by not meeting some weirdo?

Slowly. Dateing services can help. Also keep you radar on. You never know when you might meet someone. At work, at the Gas station, grocery shopping... Anything can happen anytime, and meeting people happens anytime you see someone you don't know. Just say hello, talk and most important LISTEN. Try to get to know everyone, even if they aren't a Mr or Mrs right, or a mr or mrs right for one night... You never know when someone might have a relative or friend that is... Well you just have to keep an open mind when you are meeting people and if you have to work during weekends, maybe you could spare some time in the evenings or nights to chill with friends?
