My brother has one for TRD and I am trying to get one also for TRD. It has changed his life. He is back in school working on his Masters. It has just done him a world of good. His outlook on life has changed, he has been able to significantly reduce his medications. He used to be irritable and hard to get along with. The change I have seen in him is tremendous and that is why I am trying so hard to get one.

I have resistant depression also. I do not know anything about VNS. Did a doctor recommend that to you? In my case, I would go for it, unless there was a possibility it could make my depression worse.

I certainly hope that VNS or something helps you. I know how hard it is.

The vagus nerve is a parasympathetic nerve that innervates the heart - it slows it down. Stimulating the vagus nerve will slow your heart down and ultimately this will lower body tension, basically you will sort of be running at a lower capacity. This helps depression by causing some of the negative side effects of depression on the body to be alleviated such as chronic imbalance of neurotransmitters and such.
