Here is a question: Explain how the bibles says the world is only 6,000 years old. Creationists believe the grand canyon was made by one massive flood. Use Geological evidence supporting your answers.

I can prove how it wasn't made in one big flood, using geological evidence based on sediments, fossils, and comparing areas that were influenced by massive floods. can you?

If you look at the Layers in the grand canyon they are go in a transgressing and regressing order ( sandstone to shale to limestone to shale to limestone). In order to get this you must have rivers or small bodys of watter slowlying growing and shrinking in size. You can find a basic pattern by looking at coast lines or the great lakes.

Other evidnce such as the lack of any major unconformities in the area suggests that it was a long and steady process to form this deposition. Also if you look on top of the grand canyon, the area is pretty flat. So if a massive flood cut the grand canyon wouldnt it have spread out more forming a massive lake, because there are no other geological "barriers" to direct the cutting of the flood into the earth.

You can also compaire its time with the amount of fossiles found around the grand canyon area. Even if you think they were put there by god, how can you explain carbon dating.

We can easily compair this area to one that was affect by a flood....

I think you've squashed Mahal, and please answer my question so I don't have to give "Best Answer" to some kind of moron (unless mahal pops by and actually says something a bit better than last time).

:)

No, the world is about 8000 years old (my best guess).

The reason why radiological dating doesn't work is because it's not linear. Carbon dating is already being rejected by historians as unreliable and requiring too many adjustments for atmospheric events through the years.

(Um, my challenge had to do with the Bible, though, didn't it? I don't think the Bible makes a specific claim on geological grounds, does it? If it does, please find me a verse, and I'll address it.)

I'm sure you can prove that the earth never suffered from one BIG FLOOD, all you have to do is prove that the Bible actually says that one happened.

(Careful now, I know Hebrew...)

Note to Jen below:

The dates given in Genesis 5 are likely wrong. From about 4000 to 1800 BC, there were perhaps dozens of different number systems developing around Mesopotamia, and it wasn't until the Babylonians in Nippur about 1800 BC that anyone tried to make a single universal system. When they did, they also rewrote many ancient documents and misinterpreted almost all the numbers, misunderstanding the way they counted. This can actually be demonstrated using the Sumerian Kings List and the "Rulers of Lagash" texts. The same thing likely happened with Genesis 5, written likely before 2800 BC for the first time.

There was a massive world wide flood about 4400 years ago. After, the mountains rose and there was runoff creating canyons such as the Grand Canyon. Was I there ? No. But I was alive when Mt. Helens erupted and created a Grand Canyon on a smaller scale in a matter of days, not millions of years. Here is geological evidence of the Little Canyon formation. http://www.icr.org/research/index/researchp_sa_r04/

personally i'm a creationist and an evolutionists and believe me i have gone to school and studied both theories

i Believe in evolution and that the earth was created a long long long long time ago, i mean come on u can't argue with that BUT i also think that the bible was also written a long long long time ago also in different dialects ALSO the bible was initally used as a book of law

i think the writers of the bible and people who re-wrote it in more modern languages mis-interpreted it wrong, missed some key points and also manipulated it because they knew the word of god (religion) had such a strong effect on the people also it's very possible that the bible uses many metahpors and figurative language that is interpreted too literally

You are basing your assumption on what you consider to be perfect truth (science) Science is not a perfect truth. It is the interpretation of data secured under particular circumstances. Christians also have data on which they base their beliefs but if so called scientifically based I wouldn't buy into them either. Knowing my God is all the proof I need.
