lol Good point. No one knows if they're going to heaven. In a way, it's a safety net for some people so they're not so scared of the unknown. Don't get me wrong, religion isn't bad per say, it's the way some people use (or shall I say abuse) it. No person knows if another is going to heaven or hell so, how can someone say they know they're going to heaven? Again, it's just their idea, that doesn't make it so.

In my personal experience, I get away from people who say they know they're going to heaven. They ususally full of it and are the biggest hypocrites. Not all religious people are hypocrites. Just the ones that think they know what is going to happen.

The reason some christians translate it like that is because it says in the bible that god is graceful and loves you no matter what. That doesn't mean that you can screw up over and over and still get into heaven. It doesn't - sin is indelible. (Without god).
You need to realize that we have all sinned, and god has warned us in his word that we will have to be punished - by his law.
Think about it like this: If you raped and murdered a girl/guy, and stood up in front of the judge and said: "I'm really sorry, I won't ever do it again - just gimme another chance." - the judge would laugh in your face and send you off to prison. But god isn't your average judge. He loves you so much he wants us to realise the sin you've done - and forgive us.
By god's law, we are ALL guilty. Because of his laws - (the ten commandments). And punishment is hell.
The only escape route is 'being saved'; like you say. But it's a change of the heart and spirit. You can't just say sorry and get on with your life - heaven won't be guaranteed for you.
God wants you to love him with all your heart - because he wants you to have the eternity in paradise that he's got for you.

The point of being "saved" is accepting Jesus' act and his authority. His sacrifice removed the gap between God and man so man could develop a relationship with God. Being changed doesn't magically change a person to some kind of perfect state without sin and mistakes. It just opens the door for repentance and acceptance. The idea is for a person to develop a relationship which, over time, helps them improve their attitudes, actions, and thought process. God's goal is to help us become more balanced individual.

People who get "saved" as fire insurance for eternity haven't quite got the concept although it's a nice perk.

the question is what does it mean to be saved...
in religion there is no such thing as being saved.. being in a religion is actions and doing the ordinances and partaking of covenants you make, or the covenants that you renew every week attending church. the principles are also partakings of the covenants but also the belief of god.the principles and the actions or christlike attributes and ordinances go hand in hand with each other. theres no way u can have one without the other.
growing up i noticed lots of people gave out liturature on how to be saved.. just say this little prayer and thats it ... dont do anything wrong ever again and go to church. but i realized over the years thats we go wrong its more than that.its our actions that make us christlike but also choosing our right paths and seeking out more spiritual knowledge is the keys to our happyness and sucess.it also depends on who are you seeking out ur spiritual knowledge from that helps too.
i believe even when we die we still have that chance to change....and have that chance to be with heavenly father and be at peace.
but id only have to tell u once. its ur choice not mines.
here is a clear simple example of some of the things that i believe in.... and a website to look into also

have a great day tracy
and dont forget to write back!! thanks happy reading.

You state a good point in a strange way. I think that, for Christians, the idea of being saved is supposed to be an ongoing challenge of doing your best and asking for forgiveness but I may be wrong.

I'm totally having a craving for chocolate ice cream, is this close enough to Pascal's Wager?
