I have a one year old ragdoll neutered male who suddenly got interested in the outside world and gives me a hard time everytime a door opens. He keeps waiting by the doors whenever someone tries to get in or get out and once the door is open he runs outisde and wouldn't come back in. I tried spraying him with water and he wouldn't stop doing it. What can i do to stop him from going outside?

arrange it so that every time the door opens, it makes a sudden loud sound or noise. Hang empty tin cans containg pebbles on the door knob (both sides) and make sure you jangle the tins real good when you open the door. Put a discreet sign on the oustside of the door advising those who come in to do the same with the cans hanging on their side. I am almost sure that your kitty will run for her favorite hiding spot in your house when she hears the janggling tin cans! After a while, she'll assocaie that awful nerve-wracking janggling with the door itself and will avoid it.

You are going to have to be MEGA careful. Other readers may not know that ragdoll cats cannot go outdoors, because they show no fear of cars or anything - they would not run away from a car, they would just lie down.
However, when you are getting ready to go out, make some sort of nasty noise or something - something to scare him off. Or a noise he won't like, like a few pennies in a pop can you can shake.
By the way, don't you just love having a ragdoll? We have a female just over a year old, not a purebred, but her only tabby characteristic is that she has a wide, fluffy head instead of the siamese-ish thin and pointy one (which is fine with us). She's just a treasure!

My ragdoll cat did the same thing last time. Usually we would shut him in the room before open the door. And if he runs out, I would punished him by scolding him "bad boy!" & not giving him his favourite cat treat for that whole day. Believe me, he did learnt his lesson!

a friend of mine told me that she used to have a cat that used to do what your cat does all the time. one day when my friend tried to quickly close the door to prevent him from getting out, she accidently hit (crashed) his neck and he died. it's a tragic thing to be telling you but i want to you to be aware. i have an 8 year old cat and he always try the same thing and i make sure i hold him before closing the door. sometimes he runs out before i get a chance to catch him. if you live in an apartment, let him walk in the hallway for awhile but be with him . if you live in a house keep him in your room and put a guard( the one used for babies)on the entrance to the room.

try to put it somewhere so it doesn't know when someone is going in or out. or put someting on the doorway so that it can't climb over it.
