I am living in a foreign country and my oldest has just started grade one this year. He is learning the culture and language of this country as well as social skills he needs, but he's getting no idea of his own parents culture. I'm looking for a website that has some info on how to teach elementary English, western culture and the like. Also, some ideas for a model curriculum for elementary school students (Ex. what he should know by grade 2 etc.) or sites/books I get access would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Rebecca Rupp has written a book called Home Learning Year by Year that outlines a curriculum you might want to consider. There's a series by E. D. Hirsch (What Your First Grader Needs to Know is one of the books) that has more cultural literacy and less academic intensity.

Years ago I bought a book by Diane Lopez called "Teaching Children: A Curriculum Guide to What Children Need to Know at Each Grade Level Through Sixth Grade"
The book does include a seperate chapter on Kindergarten. The author is very thorough and seperates each grade by subject breaking down what you child should learn each year.
This was an awesome resource I used continuously when homeschooling my young children. I highly recommend this book.
Good luck!

Be sure to check the laws of the country you are living in. There are several countries overseas that are not accepting of homeschooling, and you could face legal trouble. Google online for overseas homeschooling.

'What Your X-Grader Should Know' is a fairly advanced and classically minded curriculum, and I liked it because every single topic is in one book. If you want to cover it more, than you can search the same topics online or at a library, there is one from preschool on up to eighth grade, I think.

Good luck

I would sugguest you visit the US Embassy or if a friendly country to the US the local US military base and ask about Home Schooling information. Bases often have on site schools for family members and are equipted for the schooling needs and maybe able to provide guide lines. The Embassy can provide a State Dept contact for your needs.

World Book has a nice listing of skills for each grade level. Go to their website and check out Typical Course of Study.

I would contact the Department of Education in your home country. They will most likely have some fact sheets and be able to point you in the right direction for further resources that could help you out.

guide to u r student in such a way that every thing must be practical
for example if u want tell the culture of India just wear a cultural dress of India and show him so that when he seen that ... immediately he will get an idea that it is of India custom so that the practical things makes man to develop. So we have to teach in such a way that they have to understand and they have to apply that
