So far, I have seen absolutely no credible, scientific evidence for an old earth. I do not care one bit if it is a trillion years old, if that is how old it really is, but I see nothing showing for sure that the earth is old at all.
How old is the earth? I do not know, and the Bible does not say. Certainly nothing in the Bible says that it is six thousand years old. However, it is strongly suggestive of a young earth. Also it is suggestive of a young universe, at least that part which can be seen from the earth.
In the Bible we see the “sons of God” rejoicing at the creation of the earth – this is before man’s creation.
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
This is an extremely interesting verse. The regular stars were made on the fourth day, and man on the sixth day, so what are these stars which witness and celebrate earth’s construction and those sons of God that existed before man? Most people just say “angels”, and they are most likely right. Other verses support this, but why would it not just plainly say “angels” if it meant angels? We know that angels can be called the sons of God, and we know that those who are resurrected in Christ are most certainly called the sons of God. Could these be the sons of God from another “earth” that has come and gone? We do not know.
The creation took seven nights and days, of this there is no doubt. People like to try to insert years between verse 1 and verse 2 of Genesis chapter 1, but the fact is, you cannot do that because of this verse:
Ge 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
To sum things up, how do I reconcile this with scientific evidence? I do not need to, so far the scientific evidence supports a young earth and things coming about quickly.
If you like "mathematical analysis of the universe" try the links below and consider how much we actually know.

My guess is that the animal we evolved from is hundreds of millions of years old. We have probably been human like for a least a few million years. The Bushmen of Africa who are actually of a black asiatic race, have written history inside of caves walls that have been dated to be at least 500,000 years old. Pictures of elk and other things that suggest a hunter gathering past and evolution from a not so upright animal.

When you have faith, you just believe. You are not interested in evidence, proof, logic, science, radio active decay etc...
You just say : God did it.
No need to waste time learning, studying, challenging, peer reviewing, experimenting etc... All those time wasting activities that scientists do .
No need even to read the Bible, just learn by heart two or three sentences and to repeat them all the time, if possible with an "inspired" tone and rolling eyes.
Is that not great ?
God moves in mysterious ways....
It's the holly spirit at work...

i'm Christian and that i under no circumstances new that Christians think of the Earth is 6000 years previous. i grew to become into taught that the Earth is 4.5 billion years previous. additionally, the bible isn't precisely gods words. it particularly is what the bible writers think of God says. do no longer misread the Bible. God could care much less wether you think of the earth is 6000 or 4.5 billion years previous. He might care extra approximately issues like the golden rule.

Did you know 35% of Americans take the Bible literally. That means that 35% of Americans think the world was created in one week, and that the Earth is 6,000 -10,000 years old.
To be fair almost 50% of Americans re-elected Bush.
So what have we learned.

what exactly do you want for an answer?
"oh, guess the bible is a bunch of bunk."?
Begginning of creation doesn't neccesarily mean the exact begginning of the world, it could simply refer in this particular case to the creation of people and animals.
Your talking about the gospel of mark where Jesus is trying to get a point across, and "But from when god started making all the people and such..." sounds kinda silly. The wording you quote would have made sense to the audience at the time...who also didn't have the scientific knowledge we do. I can guarentee you that when Jesus spoke, he was more concerend with the people before him than us years down the road.
I think at this point God would say "pwned"

honestly I don't have to resolve these problems to believe, if you believe in a God capable of creating everything why couldn't he create it in a mature state, I don't think Adam was created as a baby nor do I think the earth was created without oil in the ground, so why couldn't he create the stars and have the light instantly appear here on earth or would that be harder than actually creating it?

well the most popular answer to that is that we dont know how long a day is for god. time is a human idea and though we naturally age the concept of time is irrelivent to god so by him saying 7 days hes was really just giving us an idea we could grasp. so a day to god could have been thousands of years. and altho some argue that we know how old the earth is, no one truly can so most evidence is moot
